I don't like Fords.
In terms of business for those companies, it works out well.
They can make more money on the lower models by sharing platforms and parts - easier to maintain as well.
The high end versions don't seem to have as much Ford contact with them - whereas for example the Jag X-Type is nearly all Ford underneath the outer skin (forget the name M-Something).
Jag, Land Rover, and Aston Martin are all doing better under Ford's house. It's very hard for these nameplates to turn profit in the very crowded High-Lux market.
Either you get sucked into a larger company, or you sink.
I'm sure if you've got yourself a jag right now you could just walk right in and do a test drive but tell them you still have a MB you have to look at.
