Maybe if they would actually pay those guys going in, some decent money to live on, this would not be entirely necessary. Besides that,... I'll bet we'll never know the real reason behind any of this war business. The government today is the worst it's ever been with it's lies and bullshit. They do what is in the best interest for keeping "their own jobs." Seems to be a "blatenly obvious" trend amoungst anyone in politicis nowadays.(IMO)

Capitol Hill Murmurs: Reinstate Draft?

A senior Republican senator has said that the deteriorating security in Iraq could force the United States to reinstate the compulsory military draft, reports the AFP Worldwide news service. "There's not an American...that doesn't understand what we are engaged in today and what the prospects are for the future," Senator Chuck Hagel of Nebraska told a Senate Foreign Relations Committee hearing on post-occupation Iraq. "Why shouldn't we ask all of our citizens to bear some responsibility and pay some price?"

Sen. Hagel's argument: Restoring the draft would force "our citizens to understand the intensity and depth of challenges we face." Hagel believes compulsory military service would spread the burden more equitably among all social strata. "Those who are serving today and dying today are the middle class and lower middle class," he said. The military draft ended in the early 1970s just before the end of the Viet Nam War.

Two senators accused the Bush administration of hiding how much it will cost to continue the war in Iraq. And the figure is "astounding."

Hagel cites two reasons why the country may need a draft: The military is stretched too thin in Iraq and Afghanistan. In addition, the war on terrorism could last 20 years or more. In an interview with NBC's "Today," Hagel stopped short of calling for a resumption of the draft and instead urged that some sort of "mandatory national service" be considered for all citizens. Sen. Joseph Biden (D-Del.), who is also member of the Foreign Relations Committee, told NBC that while America's standing army isn't large enough, he doesn't think a draft is necessary now.

I would not agree with drafting people to clean up some third world country, but I woud agree with this...

I agree with fighting for my country, just as long as it were absolutely necessary and legitamite. An invasion, a world war, a nuclear war, ect... In those cases you know it is for "real." No doubts... But today, our governmenr is so shady, and lie to us so much, who can believe or take serious what they say? It's accepted, or shall I say "tolerated." People now take what the president says with a grain of salt. It's not like it was 50+ years ago when if the president at that time, said something about war, you could probably be more confident it was probably true, or had some truth. Who realy knows though? Point is,...It's a shame. I know it's a shame to say one would flee to Canada in wartime, but looking into our current state of politics..."Could you really blame Joe American?" I don't think so. The only people I would readily give my life for "without a second to think of it" is family/loved ones. I am sure that is everyone's first answer. Now,...make no mistake,...I would die for my country, and my fellow Americans, to preseve our/my way of life, but it would have to be for just that, and not some "hidden agenda." Not some grudge some President or government had a stick up their ass for the other guy. It would have to be for a pretty obvious, legitamite cause, and "without a doubt situation" for me to give up my life if I was indeed drafted, and not have to ask myself or the guy behind me...."Hey bro,...Why are we fighting again?" This, to be reassured...

That is sad, and disgraceful.

I think more people would be in the US Military, if they actually paid the guys, and some of these guys were not living on poverty levels. The concensus I usually hear is, go in, get out and you are basically jobless. If you have gone in, and you are living poor, that is a shame. You went in the first place to make a decent living, fight for the country need be. The country should at least pay you, as you are risking and offering your life almost everyday if war had been declared. Not cool. These guys should be making as much green , or better than Cops, DOC officers, ect..Law Enforcement. The military does a much more dangerous job, and the risk level is much higher.

**One thing is certain**...."You can be damn sure" that none of these politicians kids, will find themselves in a draft, if indeed a draft was passed. They will be conviently MIA. Our own president Bush dodged military action, and the one before him as well. This is commonplace now with presidents...What a disgrace! These people should be setting the examples.

WTF? They use the word terrorism so broadly I fucking hate it. The war on "terrorism" is indefinate, why don't they say, "The fucked up shit we are doing in Iraq will last for 20 more years because we can't get control of the situation."

Perhaps you missed it (before the war) when Colon Powell showed those pics of possible truckloads of WMD type supplies on national television.

Not to mention Saddam.... "HIS OWN PEOPLE" remember "HIS OWN PEOPLE!!!"

Did you hear that? "H I S O W N P E O P L E!"

What else do you need? damn.
