Nightrage - Descent into Chaos

I bought this album a few months ago, but I just gave it a spin about a week ago for the 1st time.

Holy hell!!! This is easily one the best melo-death albums I own. I rank it right up there with Callenish Circle - Flesh_Power_Dominion, In Flames - The Jester Race, Kalmah - Swampsong, and Dark Tranquillity - Damage Done (yes Damage Done is my favorite DT album, but The Mind's I is a real close second).

I like this album so much I had to give it it's own thread. If you like melo-death and don't own this....buy it god damnit!!!

The only "flaw" (if you can call it that) I can see anyone picking out would be the lack of vocal range for the most part. I like the vocals as they are though, and they haven't bored me at all, so to me it's not really a flaw. I think the vocals are very fitting, and as far as Im concerned, they don't need to be anything extraordinary on this album b/c the music is so good anyway. But hey, that's just my opinion.

I think that Sweet Vengeance is waaaaaaaaaaaaay better. More of an old school vibe. Descent has that straight forward new school sound that I can't get into.

I'll check out both of those albums.

FZ, on a side note - I got Callenish Circle's new album and I gotta agree with you...it's definitely not on par with Flesh_Power_Dominion, or My Passion Your Pain for that matter.

Mello Death? Do you mean DOOM Metal? curious as I havent heard of mello, or is it your version of milder death? sweet anyway, I will check it out.

Not "mello death," melo-death. Melodic Death Metal.

aIII, yeah bro. I'm probably going to get rid of that disc this week if I feel like going to the music store. Also, as far as Scar Symmetry goes, think of them as being Natty Born Chaos/Figure Number Five-era Soilwork, better (arguable) than Soilwork does Soilwork.

"Melodic death metal (often referred to as melodeath) is a subgenre of death metal. It contains more melodic guitar riffs and solos, which are sometimes acoustic, and also occasional 'clean' singing as opposed to traditional death grunt vocals. The song structures are generally more progressive, using diverse themes throughout the song. Death and Morbid Angel, often considered the "godfathers" of death metal, are primary influences on the genre, and its progenitors include At the Gates and Carcass, with the release of their Heartwork album. Sentenced is also often credited with creating the first melodeath album with the release of North From Here. Some credit In Flames as the band which popularised the sub-genre. Melodic death metal, though from the same geographic area as black metal, rarely speaks of Satanism or the downfall of Christianity, but has more poetic themes, which vary greatly. Traditionally, lyrics deal with more Expressionist themes.

One extremely important piece of the melodic death jigsaw puzzle is the Gothenburg style, named after the city where it originated. It is not certain what band originally started the Gothenburg sound, but it is widely accepted that In Flames, At the Gates, and Dark Tranquillity are three major popularizers of the Gothenburg sound, and some of the only widely known bands to practice it."

Sorry, I forgot to mouthify FZ's peener last night so he's a bit angry.
