Newbie with a dumb question

Okay, I know to y'all this may be a dumb question but as I am new and not all too familiar with the vocabulary I need a refresher course:

What is the meaning of "cutting" vs "bulking"?

From the posts I've read it sounds like 'cutting' is reducing body fat in preparation for 'bulking' which is gaining muscle...just wondering how far off I am.

Thanks again!

Jennifer

You are correct... well sort of:) Cutting is basically dieting/reducing bodyfat and bulking is just the opposite.. gaining weight/muscle.

TS,

Please use the term "adding muscle" for bulking, and "leaning out" for cutting.

By definition. Bulky = large; massive; unwieldly or clumsy which is how most who bulk end up, then they cut because their clothes don't fit, they look like whales in a swimsuit or they have their body comp done and find out they've gained more fat than muscle. Then they lose more muscle than fat while cutting and are really pissed because now they are smaller and fatter than before they bulked. Stick around and you'll find out how to avoid all of this.

Welcome to the board.

Or you could say bulking is what most men do year round. And cutting is what most women do year round... :D

Actually this would be more correct....

Daeo was very very close, just add two little words in two places:

Or you could say bulking is what most men TRY to do year round. And cutting is what most women TRY to do year round...:silly:

And that TRY to would include me!
