New Nolvadex study

Hey, heard about this on the radio on friday, and didn't see anyone else post anything about it yet so figured I might as well let it out ;)

So there is some new evidnce found that might be of interest to a few people around here since there have been threads about taking gear to make you taller/wider.... Anyway, here is what i found with a simple google search, don't know exactly where to find the actual write up tho.

Cancer Drug May Help Short Boys Be Taller

NEW YORK - The drug tamoxifen, usually used to treat or prevent breast cancer, may help short boys attain a normal adult height, researchers report. Final body height is determined when the skeleton reaches maturity, and tamoxifen decreases the rate of skeletal maturation, according to study findings reported in the medical journal Pediatrics.

THE drug tamoxifen, usually used to treat or prevent breast cancer, may help short boys reach normal adult height, researchers say.

Final body height is determined when the skeleton reaches maturity, and tamoxifen decreases the rate of skeletal maturation, says study findings reported in the medical journal Pediatrics.

"Our results suggest that tamoxifen may improve height potential in pubertal boys with short stature," lead investigator Dr Nerissa Kreher said.

However, "controlled, prospective studies are needed to verify these findings."

Is there a study to back this up? since Nolva is known to lower IGF-1 levels.

estrogen has been known to stunt growth, thats why women are generally shorter, and thats why non aromatising steroids dont stunt growth in teens, like winny and anavar.

it could have something to do with that

That's exactly what it has to do with. When you block estrogen's actions, the bones will continue to grow;.

oestrogen is more clearly linked to ephyseal closure.

in this study it indicates that another serm raloxifene acted as an oestrogenic agonist in plate closure.

Raloxifene acts as an estrogen agonist on the rabbit growth plate.

Estrogen treatment has been used to induce growth plate fusion, thereby reducing the final height in girls expected to achieve extreme tall stature. The treatment is effective, in terms of limiting final height, but concerns have been raised that it might also increase the risk for malignancies later in life. Raloxifene, a selective estrogen receptor modulator, has been shown to act as an estrogen agonist on bone density but as an estrogen antagonist on breast and uterine tissue. The effect of raloxifene treatment on growth plate fusion and final height is unknown. The aim of this study was to determine whether raloxifene would act as an estrogen agonist or antagonist on growth plate cartilage. Ovariectomized immature rabbits were treated for 4 wk with vehicle (controls), estradiol cypionate (E2), or raloxifene. Tibial growth velocity was decreased in both E2- (P < 0.001) and raloxifene-treated animals (P < 0.001), compared with controls. E2 and raloxifene treatment also decreased chondrocyte proliferation and the height of the proximal tibial growth plate. In addition, E2 and raloxifene hastened fusion of the distal tibial growth plate (P < 0.05) and decreased the number of proliferative and hypertrophic chondrocytes per column in the proximal tibial growth plate. As expected, the uterus was enlarged by estrogen, but not raloxifene, treatment. We conclude that raloxifene acts as an estrogen agonist on the growth plate, accelerating growth plate senescence and thus hastening epiphyseal fusion.

here is the study that was referenced in the article (only abstract available)

PEDIATRICS Vol. 116 No. 6 December 2005, pp. 1513-1515

The Use of Tamoxifen to Improve Height Potential in Short Pubertal Boys
A retrospective chart review of 7 pubertal boys who were treated with tamoxifen was conducted to determine the effects of this therapy on skeletal maturation and predicted adult height. Tamoxifen significantly decreased the rate of skeletal maturation and increased the predicted adult height without negative effects on sexual maturation. Additional evaluation of this therapy is now required to determine if the increase in predicted adult height results in a clinically significant increase in final adult height.

I think, actually, alot of anti-estrogens have been found to beneficial for this. It has been my own pet theory that DHT-based androgens would be useful for this also, as they will inhibit estrogen; certainly the research shows that Anavar is useful in this regard.

Macro so that study about ralixofene shows to do the opposite of what this info about nolvadex is? Such that giving ralixofene will cause you to stop growing?

I'm still not too quick on the uptake of all the jargon, even though thatone isn't to heavily laden with it, i'd prefer to be sure...

It blocks estrogen which stunts growth,
but also increases testosterone slightly, which stunts growth.
no free lunch, indeed
