Nelson Montana, Sleep question?

In an earlier thread you had said that the more popular sleep aids were useless. What natural remedies (either herbal or vits/minerals) would you recommend for someone suffering from insomnia? I think Anthrax had asked but I didn't see any response. I am extremely interested as I have suffered for about the past 6 weeks and I am not interested in RX sleep aids.

6 weeks is nothing. Try takeing 30-50mg zinc 30-45 minutes before bed. Also take 2mg of time released melatonnin 20 minutes before bed. I have been doing this for 2 months with pretty good results. Before this I suffered from insomnia for 7 years, and have taken all the prescription aids like ambien, sonata, and others with bad results. If you want crazy dreams throw in 400mg of magnesium. Zinc and melatonnin won't really make you drowsy but if you lie down you should fall asleep within an hour. I do at least and before it used to take at least 4-5 hours before I fell asleep, but most nights I wouldn;t sleep at all. Tylenol pm is ok as well but it will make you feel shitty the next day.

Sorry you have suffered for 7 years. I am only trying to avoid suffering for any length of time. Six weeks is just an estimate and it is not just occasionally. It is every night and not getting rest is hampering with my recuperation from injury (most important), my job performance and my daily activities.

I do, however, appreciate your feedback. I have picked up some melatonin 1 mg. I have heard that taking too much the first time can zonk ya, so I am not taking any chances. I am spaced out enough already.:bawling:

Macro, P7 was the first thing I tried without success. I tried the melatonin last night and had a decent nite's rest. Actually got about 5 hours sleep. :) However, I am one of those people that needs no less than 8 hours sleep per night in order to function properly. So I will increase the dosage to 2mg tonight and see what happens.

last night I decided that I can't stand waking up in the middle of the night so I decided to not take magnesium, and just took 50mg zinc and 2mg melatonin, and I did not wake up and experienced no weird dreams.
