Naturopathic way to lower chlosterol??

what do you mean by "naturopathic" ?

is it natural (herbs) ?
homeopathic (very high dilutions) ?

BTW
soluble fiber,
omega 3s,
green tea

may help lowering cholesterol

Rice Bran Oil can lower cholesterol better than the statin drugs, can get I believe a 40 pt. drop in LDL and total chol. drop in 10 days.

Where do you find Rice Bran Oil? I've never heard of it! I was search the web and they make soap with it so I understand how it may assist in breaking down fats.

Natural Cholesterol Reducer

Policosanol--was proven to lower cholesterol just as much as prescribed statin controllers--usually optimal effects within eight weeks. It is made from the waxy part of the sugar cane. Sorry i don't have a particular reference for you but when I was researching there were MANY available. Do a search, check out for yourself. I think www.primev.com had a good price for it but you may find cheaper.

About the other stuff mentioned:

Fish oils ~ in large doses (10-12,1 gram capsules a day),fish oils significantly reduce triglycerides (fats in the blood), but have little effect on cholesterol.

Garlic ~ trials with garlic have been inconsistent and show only marginal effects on cholesterol. Dosages are typically between 2 to 5 grams of fresh garlic equivalent.

As margarines containing plant sterols work on inhibiting the absorption of dietary cholesterol, they don't impact the 75% of cholesterol produced by the body.

Side effects, nothing really--the only complaint was weight loss, not enough to make a habit out of it though so don't get excited.

I probably misunderstood what I have read but I thought omega 3 (fish oils) helped to raise HDL.

No that fact is true but in looking for a good reference for you found something interesting. While even the American Heart association actually specifies they do not recommend taking fish oil to lower choleserol because it raises overall bad cholesterol levels there were other studies that found garlic alone, no effect; fish oil alone--lower tri's raises cholestrol; garlic+fish oil=9.? percent drop over 12 weeks.

I was excited to find policosinal because I knew the fish oil thing was just hype and am always looking for natural alternatives. I will say the study with the fish oil and garlic sups make me believe it has potential--here is one reference:

http://www.mistral.co.uk/garlic/hypercol.htm

Unfortunately in my searching, I could find few other references and it seemed to me they all quoted the study in the link above.

Also, for more info on policosinal (in text click double blind placebo controlled studies to see research extracts) go to:

http://www.thelifestyledoctor.net/cholesterol/

The results were just better than that of the fish-oil and garlic combined. From 2002 study-- "RESULTS: At doses of 10 to 20 mg per day, policosanol lowers total cholesterol by 17% to 21% and low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol by 21% to 29% and raises high-density lipoprotein cholesterol by 8% to 15%."

A drug called MAXEPA containing right amounts of EPA & DHA the basic stuff which is contained in fish oil. Get on to google.com and type in MAXEPA you will get a list of products. Very safe and a efa in a capsule.
