My husband presented a puzzling query

Good question.....

I have another funny question...why are there so many overweight (walking) mail carriers in my area? They perform cardio all day everyday????

Why do I eat cottage cheese in BULK - but wouldn't dream of drinking fat free milk?

Why do I do that?

cause u fell on the ever so old bandwagon of so called *bodybuilding foods* these include cottage cheese, rice cakes, egg whites, wheat germ etc etc

because they have different macronutrient ratios. CC is lower in carbs higher in pro then milk.

I think it's because you have it in your head that milk has a lot of carbs, which will make you fat, but in reality, you're consuming twice the carbs you would from the cottage cheese by eating so much of it, than you would by drinking milk.

fermented dairy produces are far better than milk since lactobacillus and other (good) bacteria are healthy

Maybe it's the taste and texture. Low fat milk is thin and watery - no pleasure for the tongue. Cottage cheese has texture and those lovely little lumps. I don't chew them but sort of smash them against the roof of my mouth (that's probably more than anyone wanted to know about me! :D ) I'd rather EAT my calories than drink them - more satisfying that way.

It depends on what kind of diet you're trying to stick to. 1 quart of skim milk has around 30 grams of protein, but almost 50 grams of carbs. The equivalent amount of protein from low fat cottage cheese (1 cup) has only around 6 grams of carbs, and half of the calories as the milk. So if carbs are an issue, you shouldn't drink too much milk.

Your diet isn't rocket science. As long as you are averaging the correct amount of macronutrients each day and sticking to clean meats and complex carbs it doesn't really matter what exactly you eat.

Skim Milk is perfectly fine for a bulking diet... just make sure your carbs aren't sky high when it all adds up at the end of the day.
