it needs it, bad.... but stays at 0 %... no matter what....

Bad fat setor probably...time to get a new hard drive.

SSSSSSSSSS....Project....

You have to turn off all programs or it will restart over and over and over........

GO OUTSIDE AND COUNT TO 743,937 AND THEN COME BACK IN AND POUR A CUP OF HOT WATER OVER A FAKE PLANT AS IF YOU ARE WATERING THE PLANT. AFTER YOU COMPLETE THOSE TWO THINGS, GO OUTSIDE AGAIN AND WRAP YOURSELF IN A LARGE BANANA TREE LEAF (REMOVING ALL OTHER ARTICLES OF CLOTHING), RUN DOWN THE STREET SCREAMING "YOU MUST DEFRAG NOW, YOU MUST DEFRAG NOW". UPON YOUR RETURN, IT WILL DEFRAG. I PROMISE.

my comp was like that to last week, its getting up there about 7 yrs old now

what I did was keep formatting until it works, now it works like new,Im fucking thrilled

It's not enough to simply close out all the programs on your desktop. Go into Task Manager and do an "End Task" on all programs except Explorer. Then run your defrag.

Well, duh. That's what I was asking him. If he did that.

Most people don't think of screensavers as programs.

Backup all of your important files onto another computer, then format the whole hard drive and do a fresh install of Windows.

After running for a long time I think any Windows based OS tends to degrade somewhat. I usually backup and do a fresh install on all of my computers and laptops about once a year, this is usually a pretty good practice.

Oh, if this does not work, do what KAYNE suggested.
