My 16-Year-Old Son Got Hydros

Lolololoo amateur

first it starts off with a few hydros resulting from dental work

then, before you know it, you're mainlining teh horse and doing unspeakable acts in smelly Men's room stalls to feed teh monkey

just sayin'

He does seem to be liking them quite a bit. At breakfast this morning my wife said we'll have to flush the remainder after he's finished.

All I know, is that I was given hydrocodone after dental work when I was in my 20s, and I didn't like it at all! Did nothing for the pain, and made me all confused and paranoid for DAYS after I took one pill. I know that everybody's different, but I can't imagine anybody taking those to get high. I know that people do; I'm saying I don't get why they find it a good thing. They hand it out like candy whenever you get minor surgery or dental work, and I've never taken one since that one time 25 years ago. If I wanted to get high, I'd smoke pot. If I have pain, I take Advil... Just my 2c. worth...

I'm with you 100%. Hated hydros when I had them after dental work when I was 25.

Let the kid have the hydros if he wants them. It's not like he's popping one then ripping a bong and listening to Phish or something, he has a legitimate reason/excuse.

Just because they prescribed it doesn't mean he needs it, I got a script for dental extraction aftercare, I took some Damn Tylenol and didn't even fill the script. Yes I had pain, yes I had a reason/excuse to take it, but I sure as hell didn't need it.

He's already tapering down on his own. Says the pain isn't too bad.

And it's Rammstein he listens to, not Phish.

I think doctors and dentists PUSH pain pills because they don't want anybody to tell others that "Dr. ________ left me stuck with all this pain, and didn't give me anything to help except aspirin". Also there is a worry that aspirin and Advil-type OTC pain remedies, cause excess bleeding after surgery or injuries. I ignore that worry, and have never bled out yet.....

i definitely needed hydros for dental work. my experience with wisdom teeth seemed more painful than most ppl i had asked about it.

and as far as other doctors go, they never want to give me adequate pain relief, even when they have the scans in hand and see the damage is legit. i always hear about pill pushing doctors, but im never lucky enough to meet them.

id rather have a bottle of pills go unused in my cabinet than have the need and nothing be available.

Mein frank?

I guess it's just luck. It's like only millionaires seem to be winning the lottery.

Seriously, I'm a strong believer in keeping all things on hand because you never know.... Pills of all types included. You never know when you'll have somebody come over who forgot their pills, or you discover on a Friday of a holiday weekend, just after business hours, that you got back an infection and need an antibiotics refill that you can't get called in 'til next week... :nopity:

This is going to become a vastly bigger problem as health care reform kicks-in.
