muscle vs. Body Fat %

Avo

New member
im 18, 6'0", 215lb., and have a body fat of about 25%...i do about 40 minutes of high intensity cardio 5 days a week followed by reistance training...i was wondering if in the long run all the fat in my upper arm(biceps and triceps) will go away and would just become lean muscle...any suggestion to what i should do?

Well for starters, i don't think there are too many folks who do cardio first then resistance train.

My suggestions would be to separate your cardio and your w/o.

-if time permits, you can do your cardio first thing in the morning on a empty stomach. 30-45 minutes is a good start.

-lift weights on other days. Try not to exceed 1 hour.

-and last but not least, DIET, DIET and DIET is key.

Do you have a home gym or do have a membership?

If you are trying to loose bf, then I would recommend doing your 40 minutes of cardio in the morning on an empty stomach and doing your resistance workout in the afternoon or evening when you have had some time to recover from your cardio and eat. The reason for this is your blood glucose levels will be low and force you to burn more fat in the morning. Also it has been demonstrated that doing cardio at sufficient intensity for 35-45 minutes per session will increase the fat burning metabolism for up to 6 hours after you are done. That is why I did it twice per day so I would double this affect plus burn more when I worked out with weights. When I was trying to cut down weight years ago, I used to do 35 minutes of cardio in the morning on an empty stomach and an hour and fifteen minutes in the afternoon and then I would lift weights at night for about an hour and a half (I would ride my bike on the open road year round, rain or shine). It worked extremely well and is the method that worked best for me. I got really ripped up and everyone kept asking me if I was doing AAS but I was completely clean then. I have never had over single digits of bodyfat ever since but did that routine for about four years. I also kickboxed at night four nights per week for an hour each session. So I really did a shitload of cardio--probably way over kill. The other thing is that you have to watch your diet also.

Also you can't turn fat into muscle. It is apples and oranges. You can burn off fat and you can increase your muscle size. Two entirely different things. The good news is that the more muscle you have, the easier it is to get lean as it increases your metabolism.

the reason why i do 40 minutes of high intensity cardio before resistance training is to get my heart rate up and also time doesnt permit me to workout twice a day...i have a membership to a gym...and also thanx for informing that fat doesnt turn into muscle...does anyone have any ideas to what foods contain a high amount of protein and low amount of carbs?

Do a quick 10 minutes of cardio b4 your workout to get warmed up and then do cardio after u lift. Your body will be low on glycogen due to your lifting therefore it will tap into fat stores quicker.

I agree it is better to do cardio after lifting if you cant break it up. I do cardio in the AM and lift in the PM.

To answer your question, when your body fat goes down, that subcutaneous fat in your upper arms will dissappear.

i cut down on my cardio, cleaned up my diet and have been hitting heavy weights like a beast for about 2 months now. my metabolism finally started up again and i've lost 2% bf, went from 11.6% to 9.6% and i can say that i've gotten stronger and look much bigger.

Ok, first, if you can physically do it for 40 minutes and do not pass out much sooner than this, it is not high intensity cardio. We refer to this is moderate or low intensity cardio.

You may wish to post on the diet and training forums also. What does you diet look like? What you eat is the #1 factor in losing bodyfat, followed by training, then drugs. Without a proper diet, you are wasting your time with the other two. So, break down your diet for us.

checkout www.c-k-d.com it has lists of foods that are low in carbs. If you don't know about the CKD dite...do some reading...

Cut the cardio (IMO) and do high intensity weight training (like the 6-20 routine) for an hour every other day...that will get you in shape and looking your best.
