Transmission is excellent, hows the body and motor? If they are ok, the price is ok. Take cash and try to get it for closer to two grand US, and you got a great deal.

He said on the phone the motor was "operational". I'm gonna bring someone tomorrow to make a check up. So 2000$ would be closer to reality ?

If it ran well yes, but thats just an offhand estimate. You really need to check it out but you know the cash part is for sure, lol. It might not be worth more than a grand, or it could be worth 5 grand. If its a numbers matching car in good shape, 2000 US would be a good price IMO.

It really depends on what you plan on doing with the car, if you want it to be a daily driver it would probably take some work to fix up. Did they say the engine was 318hp or 318 cubic inches, becuase the latter sounds right. The motor being "operational" is questionable, look for excessive blowby out the valve covers. When you go and check it out, make sure the guy hasnt started it previous to your visit. The initial startup is when you could notice some problems. Get under the car and look for oil leaks.

Stuff that would be nice if it had: Disc brakes, at least in the front. Functioning heater anything that doesnt work might be expensive to fix.

get under the car, checkout the shockmounts. On my chevelle I had air shocks and they were ripping the mounts right off the frame. Basically, anything that you see is wrong, try and get a price deduction for.

And keep in mind, this is mopar, parts will be more expensive than chevy and significantly harder to find.

A muscle car for a daily driver...I wouldnt recommend it, they are badass cars but I have been there where its in the shop or something is broken and it really limits your movement.

Honestly? I wouldnt buy it, I dont concider it a muscle car. It's a boat bro offer like $1000 if you really like it...1974 is to late of year

QUick question, how would you compare it to an Impala or El Camino, same year of course ?

Well, Im not sure, but '74 wasnt really a great year for muscle cars anyway. Ditto on checking out the car cold, I always run my cars before selling them, ppl have no clue.

That is not a muscle car. Nor is it, or will it ever be worth anything. (Comparitively speaking.) You would be be better off buying a Trans Am, with a 400, or 455 instead. That, at least has a following.

1974 318 Chargers, (regardless of the Charger heritage) is a "nothing" car. For that kind of money, buy a Camaro, Firebird, or Mustang. It you can, get a GTO or Chevelle. You are better off restoring one of those cars than a stripped out base 74 Charger.

If that car were a modern car, it would be a base two door Dodge Stratus, to put it in perspective.

Good points: yes it is old, yes it is inexpensive, and yes it will get some attention at the Home Depot parking lot. But anyone who knows anything about muscle cars knows that car is virtually worthless.

Sorry to be so negative, but again, you would better off putting your money somewhere else.

My opinion: Take your money, and try to find a rust free 1977-1979 Trans Am. Get one with the 400 Pontiac, or 403 Olds engine. You can get a nice example for less than 5K. And at least then, you are starting with a car that has a legit following.

If you want to pm, hit me up whenever.

It's not for daily driving. I have a C240 for that. It would be more of a collector's item. I have a El Camino SS 1971 sitting here and untouched yet. Maybe I'll just keep the money and invest it on the El Camino...

YES DO THAT! Smart move. If it is a real SS, it has a big block, and with be worth DRASTICALLY more that than that mickey mouse charger. Restore the Chevy, and you'll get your money back.

If it has matching numbers, it will be worth more, but if it has replacement block or trans, and is clean, it will be worth a nice chunk of change. 10-15K, unless it is a 454 car.

I bought the El Camino in July for 5000$ from an old man who kept the car in his garage 98% of the time. It is a big block 454 c.i. 360HP. Suspension needs to be changed, as well as the gear and converter. He tried to sell it to people in his building but no one seemed interested by this hybrid.

YOu need to find out if it is a real Ls-5 454. Which is what is sounds like it is... If it is a numbers matching car, and you restore to factory specs, and make it look nearly new...it will net about 20K.

Obviously if it needs everything; paint, interior and mechanicals, it might not be worth it to restore. Elcaminos are a very odd marque... most guys that buy SS 454 Elcaminos, do so because they can not afford a 454 SS Chevelle.

Regardless, if the car is original and it only needs a minor stuff, go for it.

Most importantly, make sure it is a car you don't mind spending money on. Big block Chevys are notorious for running like shit unless tuned to the nth degree. Also, modern gasoline sucks form calssic cars. You should add octane booster, and possibly a lead substitute to protect the valves. Or you can run cam2 race fuel for 4.99/gal.

i've been told that toulene is basically whats in those little octane boost bottles..you can get it at paint supply stores for about $10 a gallon..I'll pour in 2 gallons per 20 gallon fillup...quite noticeable on my '98 supra turbo..down here in alabama too there is a gas station with 110 octane racing fuel..$4 a gallon,I'll mix a 3rd of a tank of the 110 with the remainder at 93 octane...then I have a real rocket

69 s or 68 s are considered the "classic" muscle in the charger line. Everyone is tellin' you right. The motor is a "run of the mill" non High perform engine. A requirement for a muscle car is at least 300 hp not c.i. but Hp. This comes from at least a 340ci and above in the Chrysler line. The muscle classic cars are a lot more expensive, though. Good luck

You want a Civic R Type.
Tricked out with a GIANT tail and some rims that spin after the car stops.

Yep! 87-93 fox body. You can find cheap easy bolt on HP everywhere. My favorite affordable muscle car.
