Mud runner races and cycles.

I'm training for a spartan 5k obstacle race. I was looking at var or winny to help cut some while training. The running is the part where I lack. Is there anything I can take that won't effect my running or possibly even help/improve it?
 
5'6" 175 around 16%bf
I ran a test e 250mg/wk cycle last winter. But now I'm looking to train for a mud run.

You're looking to do a cycle for a 5k mud run? OK....but I'm 52 and I've got 3 half marathons (13.1 miles) and 3 Tough Mudders (look that one up) all before I did a cycle. A 5k? At your age? At my age I warm up on 5k's. C'mon.
 
You dont need juice to build endurance and drop fat. You need diet and cardio. Run your ass off literally.

okay AAS isn't a magic pill that will make you be able to run long distances.

to train for a 5K you need to put in miles. I would do a 50 minute run 2minutes per mile slower than your regular pace, rest day, 1.7M sprint, rest day, hillwork/tempo run, rest day, interval training 4 X 800, rest day and so on. leading up to your 5K i would put in mileage and do light running.. then the 2 days leading up to the race rest and get a lot of sleep and fluids. THATS how you train for a 5K as a former endurance athlete.

and you better invest in good quality shoes.. $15 walmart shoes aren't gonna work. need to find a running shoe store that can measure your feet and properly fit you.. very important.. and train on grass as much as possible.. no running on concrete
 
I think I worded this wrong. I was planning on starting a cycle that wouldn't hinder my running. I've heard horror stories about being on cycle and extremely painful pumps while running.

I was thinking about a var/test e cycle. Not for the spartan race directly. I just don't want to hinder my running.

I've been lifting constantly for 3-4 years now and my diet is good for the most part. It's not perfect but it's far from bad.

nah AAS won't help your endurance at all. long distance runners look skinny for a reason, muscle will hinder your times so as a long distance runner you want to shed fat and muscle off your frame and have lean muscle only.

i would go with the GW.
