is a protien shake and a peice of fruit enough for a prework out meal/first meal.

i wake up at 9 and take a shake and a banana, then eat an hour later then work out. but i was wondering if i can just drink the shake? or is that too little calories?
 
The protein shake should be used because of catabolism from the night before. But the fruit is not a good idea, as the protein is being digested or used the fruit will rot behind it in your gut. That is why fruit is best eaten by itself so it is used and digested straight away. A better idea would be to blend a banana into the shake.
