More Brit stuff: weights and measures?

Ok, so from what I've heard they use metric and conventional measures in England, right?

Is distance in miles or kilos, whats the speed limit in?

You buy gas by the liter but beer by the pint, right? What about soft drinks?

What do you measure the weight of meats or produce in, metric or pounds and stones? You measure your own weight in stone right, but your height in cm?

So confusing....

Distance is in miles; 1mile=about1.63km

yup, gas by the litre (about 80 pence) and beer by the pint in pubs (or half pints in Imnotdutch's case)

A stupid new thing has come in with soft drinks in bars and clubs where the only measure you can get in a lot of places is 16oz.

Most measure food in pounds, but there is a lot of legal hooha about that at the moment.

Measure weight in stone and height in feet and inches.

hopefully the whole world will go metric soon, but i guess convention makes things easier in some cases (m.p.h., pints etc)

I remember in 1st grade they were telling us how the US was going metric so we better jump on board. Doesn't seem like much has changed since then though.

Soft drinks are either in a can, 20 oz, 1 liter, 2 liter, or 3 liters. And thats the only thing I can think of that's metic. Well if you take a lot of science classes they make you do all the measuring in metric but other than that I cant think of anything.
