I knwo there's mint leaves, what else? I want to make these in a couple of weeks. That's all I drank in Miami and I fell in love with them but nobody's even heard of them up here.

I know I could have just googled this but I imagine like everything else there are different renditions, so hook me up with the best one.

Here is one recipe:
1.5 oz BACARDI Rum
12 fresh spearmint leaves
1/2 lime
7 oz club soda
2 tbsp. simple syrup
(or 4 tsp. sugar)

Gently crush mint leaves and lightly squeeze lime in a cool tall glass. Pour sweet syrup on top to cover and fill glass with ice. Add Bacardi Rum, club soda, and stir

For some reason I thought there was more to it than that.

Mmmmmmmmmm mojito's

more to it? ... hehe.. there is...

the essential passion of this baby is not from the mint.. although the true lover will use big ol cane cristals to 'rub' the mint into a paste... the 'soft tips of your lovers fingers barely grazing your lips' sensation in this one comes from the oils in the limes skin... you really want to get this one rolling?

Wash the limes in warm water to get any parafin or oil off them, roll them hard under your palm to break appart the little juicy cells inside before you half them, roll them between thumb and fingers as you sqeeze them to realease the juice AND the oils from the skin, and then let the lime stay under the ice in the drink... the lime oil hints at bitter, but will help cut the sweet and add dimension to the sour...

warm breezes, rustling palms, white linen, the sound of water and soft, bronzed skin still warm from the sun....

yum

Great description, puts me back on the beaches as it were yesterday. I love this drink because it isn't fruity, it isn't too sweet and drink just a couple of these and you won't be feeling any pain.

I've also had them served with sugar cain sticks in them which I enjoyed chewing on.

This is definetly going to be my holiday drink!

Thanks Chefwide and nycgirl, I'll invite you two over when I make them and we'll get wasted and then play naked twister.

Oh, I'm in. I'll bring dessert. I will go to lovely Spanish bakery in Arlington and pick up something special to match the occassion.

DOn't worry I have the perfect music for such an occasion, Tom Jones Christmas special, festive seduction I'd call it.

Sticks.

down here the mint leaves are still on the sticks.

For garnish, Nancypants... gotta crush a wee bit for the flava, aaaaight, playa?

Everytime I got one in Miami (go figure) it looked like something I cleaned out of the lawn mower bag.

lol, that's how they seem to make them in Miami, all mine were the same way. I kinda liked it like that though, I enjoyed chewing on the leaves, I'm wierd though.

If you look here the end result looks as if there are quite a few leaves in it:
