MLB player arrested for assaulting a sausage

Sometimes I make this ugly face and recoil in horror whenever I read your posts. This is one of those times.

This guy is a dumbass. He actually got charged with a misdemeanor...we'll see if they prosecute.

Turns out teh woman in the costume isOK, and if she has half a brain, she can litigate this thing and get out of there with a fwe bucks.

High prfile cases always settle for more money than the amount of the injury is worth. She's got both teams and the player that can be named as defendants.

Could be a 6 figure pay day for her.

true, but she was treated for a scraped knee. what can she sue him for?

High priofile cases always setle for mor than they are worth. The camera guy that got kicked by Dennis Rodman settled for $200K. The guy had a leg bruise.

High profile organizations: Brewer, Pirates, MLB and Mr Simon all have deep pockets and all have a lot to lose if this thing stays in the news too much longer.

That's the leverage and why she can (if she wants) negotiate an unduly high settlement.

The claim itself could be emotional damages - the injury itself is a small amount, but then "pain and suffering" can be an unlimited award.

This is 3 hours of work for any lawyer.

i still dont understand why he hit her with a bat.

because he's a dope. if you watch sportscenter this morning at the start of the show they replay the incident. he was just standing there and they ran by him and he tapped her in the head (the head of the costume, not her actual head).

"Pittsburgh first baseman Randall Simon was booked for misdemeanor battery for hitting one of the Milwaukee Brewers' popular racing sausages with a bat during Wednesday night's game."

He should have swung at the Knackwurst, IMO.

it looked like he got kicked in the balls though. that goes a long way in the eyes of a jury.

Dude!

You are totally ignoring the fact that this thing will settle right away, like the Rodman case. It will never ever ever ever see a courtroom, much less a jury.

That's how it works. Only 2% of tort cases go to trial, and they are usually far more complex / high dollar than these.

sarcasm never works on the Net. :(

Randall Simon is an asswipe with corn. I hope he gets his ass fined a major amount of money. I could'nt believe he did that, and then was bragging to his team mates who were all looking at him like he was an idiot. The Pirates should release his dumbass!!!!

I dont think it is as bad as it has been made out to be..

He tapped her with the bat and she fell over, causing another to fall over..

It looked like a joking type of thing, not that the hot dog pissed him off or anything..

Right afterwards in the dug out they all reacted like nothing had happened.

Mascots get f'd with all the time.. These hotdog's are like mascots.. It just shows that this is a VERY slow summer for sports

God bless America.

Frivilous litigation for all.

exaaactly!

people need to lighten up. so she fell. a joke went awry. so be it.

LIGHTEN UP! The whole thing was a big joke. There was no intent. Randal simon is known to be a clubhouse joker. He is far from malicious. granted what he did was not brilliant, but it was far from intentional.

The women ``were not interested in having him charged criminally'' and did not
believe Simon meant to hurt them, Deputy District Attorney Jon Reddin said

Simon was cited by the sheriff's department for disorderly conduct and fined $432. He can contest the citation at a Sept. 3 hearing.

Simon maintains he did not deliberately try to knock down the female mascot.

``That wasn't my intention in my heart for that to happen,'' he said before Thursday's Brewers-Pirates game. ``I was just trying to get a tap at the costume and for her to finish the race.''

Simon said he hopes to apologize to the woman before he leaves Milwaukee.

``I thought at the moment they were trying to play with us. They were running right next to the players,'' he said. ``I'm a fun player, and I've never hurt anyone in my life.''

Simon was taken to the Milwaukee County Jail after the game, won 2-1 by the Brewers in 12 innings. He was booked, released and ordered to appear in the district attorney's office.

Simon had been handcuffed in what is standard procedure for those taken to jail, Deputy Inspector Sherry Warichak of the sheriff's department said. She said he was ``totally
Four people in sausage costumes race around the infield warning track between the sixth and seventh innings at Brewers' games to entertain fans.

When the group went past the Pirates' dugout, Simon took a half swing at the Italian sausage character, hitting her from behind and causing her to tumble. When she fell, she knocked over the woman dressed as the hot dog.
