James "Pud" Galvin is in baseball's Hall of Fame, winning 361 games from 1879 to 1892. One of his nicknames was "The Little Steam Engine." Well, no wonder! In 1889, according to an article in the Washington Post at the time (as reported earlier this year on NPR), Galvin was openly taking a potion called the elixir of Brown-Sequard, which was essentially testosterone extracted from animal testicles. (According to other researchers, Babe Ruth may have tried a similar elixir.)

Anyway, as much it pains us to tarnish the legacy of Pud Galvin, this probably makes him baseball's first steroid user.

yeah, so everyone "hates-on" Barry Bonds when Ruth was injesting Test from animals, staying out all night drinking/drugs (no drug testing back then).

No wonder he could stay out all night and still be "up" for the games.

The thing about every one bashing bonds that baffels me is:
everyone says he's cheating. But what if the pitcher he's against in on? Is that still cheating. How about all of the other players that have cycled before but currently arent? I know after my first cycle my physique was totally transformed. My traps especially. Not sure if I was neglecting them or what. This sort of thing is a big part of sports and everyone should be suspected. So the record books should reflect that every mlb in history may have juiced. There is no way to know for sure unless they do 100% testing everyday.

Even iof they tested everyday 100% there would still be a way to skirt the test for someone that wants to badly enough. What I don't understand is why people don't bitch about a guy having superior genetics in the 1st place? I mean if Randy Johnson's mom would've fucked a different guy that Randy's father, maybe Randy Johnson wouldn't be as tall or as capable of delivering precisely thrown 100 mph pitches as he is? Is this fair to the love child of two portly, non athletic people??? Hell no-but that's life. Nobody gets the option to choose their parents, so IMNSHO using roids should be fair game for anyone that wants to use them. Unless they can invent a test that can tell precisely how much synthetic hormones an athlete has used or is is using during their lifetime, testing will be nothing more than a charade to keep the ignorant general public happy.

It has nothing to do with cheating. It has to do with fear. Every big guys knows what I'm talking about. Currently I'm 295 and fairly buffed for an old guy. There are some guys that are small and they fear guys that are big. Every big guy has had to face this problem at lest once. Some little fuck wants to make himself feel better about himself so he starts some shit with the big guy just to prove how tough he is. Most of the time the big guy just walks away as it's not worth his time and the little guy feels like the dog that barks at the postman and thinks he wins becauses the postman walked away. Most of the people making law in this country are little guys. If you read "Legal muscle" it points out the steroids are illegal because they promote muscle growth. It says it right in the law. And the big guys that make law in this country have to make deals with the little guys so they can get other things done. I personally think it's the liberal democrates that want to cut the balls off of every man over six feet tall. Wasn't there a thread not to long ago about a study that checked test levels when playing with toy guns???

My position is they are cheating. My position is also that AS should be allowed in professional sports. No one is more pro-steroid than I am. BUT, they signed a contract that says they won't use steroids. At that point if they use them they are cheating because they took the money and agreed not to.

What about that stuff (I don't recall the name) that Randy Johnson gets injected into his knee to take the place of the cartilege that isn't there? He openly admits that his career would be done without it. I suspect Barry's career would be over as well without the gh and juice.
