Along with Texas' lose of the white majority, the Census Bureau also found the state's poverty rate has been on the rise as well.

Supporters of immigration reform say the state's poverty statistics directly coincide with its loss of the white majority, being replaced mostly by poor Hispanic migrants from Mexico.

Heheh. I had to laugh at that one. I for one never took money because of my skin color. I never accept any scholarship or grant money be cause of race. I wanted to make it due to my skills and qualification. The wierd thing about what you say is , I believe companies still have quotas and it was talked about that some state university's admissions systems (the ones that have the point systems) was preferrential to minorites.

it's intersting that you say this. Being raised in New Orleans there is a word this is dear to my heart but baffling to my brain and that word is "creole" Most people today think it means "a mixture of black and white"

Unfortunately. The original English meaning of the word creole is "original french settler" So there is an assumption there that you are 100% french. Since we're talking about the 1700's there was much slave trade, so the races mixed. Racism at this point rears it's ugly head and all of a sudden , the word creole now means a mixture of african and french. Still to this day in New orleans some of the Mardi Gras "krewes" have to be 100% a certain color or ethnicity to participate. This is why Harry Connick Jr created the "Orpheus" parade as it was the "parade for everyone" Also much of that great cooking is a mixture of diferent styles of cooking. Yogart marinating , roux and what not.

I guess what I meant to say with all that verbage is that culture should be preserved at some point. I wouldn't go to the lengths above but I do think people should be familiar with thier heritage.

Heritage is important. But most Hispanic minorities use heritage as an excuse to not intergrate into the American culture. I am a first generation American. I witnessed it first hand. Most don't like America, they don't like Americans, they don't like schooling and learning English is one of the last things on their list of priorities. This is where the immigration becomes a problem and a liability. Now if they came here looking for a beter life via learning this countrys history, language and intergrating into the culture they would be an asset but they are by far and large NOT an asset but a liability to our life. The very life that everyone of you works for everyday and you should strongly DEMAND the stopping and ousting of uninvited, meddling, and ungreatfull guests.

Notice i am not referring to skin color but attitudes of immigrants.

oh yes.. i agree, my family is austrian and angolan... my parents raised me with both of my cultures. i do not believe that preserving culture means segrigation of race, but instilling in children the importance of where they come from. i have an up close and personal view of this subject since im mixed with two very (basicly opposite) differant races. but ill tell you i was lucky in so many ways to be mixed because have very litteraly the best of both worlds. my genetics are excellent. and to think of only being one or the other would be like being half a person for me.

I agree with this totally. Personally, I am all for immegration, and alot of people we see as illegal aliens, do the jobs no one else wants to do. Many of the hispanic people I have seen who are 1st generation Americans are hard work individuals, who are contributing to the economy not taking away from it. If someone wants to come to this country to become an American and make a better life for themselves and thier family, more power to them.

Howevre, I agre on this one... if you wish to reap the benefits of being an American, you need to become and American. Holding onto some of your culture is fine, but not to the point where you dislike this country, our culture and refuse to learn the language and cultural values here.

No, the problem with immigration in Canada, is *not* immigration or the people themselves. But a matter of economics. If jobs are scarce already in Toronto, and you bring in 100,000 more people a year (50% move to T.O.). Where's the new 100,000 jobs??

And who pays for their welfare, high medical costs, schooling, etc.? The middle class and gov't. Unlike the US, Canada has a very high social infrastructure meaning people who do very little -- are VERY costly to Joe Public. Take a look at Canada's tax rate (including sales tax) and you might get SHOCKED. I had no desire to keep paying fucking 15% sales tax on every little thing i bought -- and get nothing back from the gov't. Zilch.
