No contest MP3 player all the way.
Ease of use and no md's to buy. Also some MP3 players can hold most anyones full cd collection.

ASSUMING YOU SPEND THE MONEY FOR THE MEMORY. A FRIEND OF MINE AT THE GYM HAS A 32 AND 64 MB MP3 PLAYER...IT ONLY HOLDS LIKE 15-20 SONGS...IT SUCKS. ITS A SONY SO THE BATTERY LIFE SUCKS TO.

I JUST PICKED UP THE MPIO FL100 128 MB. I'M THINKING I SHOULD HAVE GOTTEN THE 256 MB BUT ITS ONLY FOR WORKING OUT SO 2-4 HOURS OF PLAYTIME IS GOOD FOR ME.

I've got a minidisc player and I do love it.

It's a simple sony deal 199 cdn or 119 american...

I was going to get a mp3 player but if you want 128mb+ you pay like mad, plus in 6-12 months it's totally outdated.

With the minidisc you have few choices of compressions including mp3 and 2 others with compress it even more but make it a mono sound if it was stereo.

I use the highest compression and thus the worst sounding music pumps through my headphones. I get over 70 full songs on each minidisc this way. The sound quality is fine. I've heard cd players and mp3 players and the only difference I've found is that the cd players are louder - but use your batteries faster.

I get around 50hours of playback from a single AA battery. Big bonus.
I carry 3 minidiscs with me as well so I have a wide variety of music in case my mood/ workout changes.

Never skips and the discs look cool.

A disadvantage is the software that comes with it to cconvert your mp3's into the new format (if you choose too). It's developed with copyright in mind - so if for some reason you have the copyright flag on in the mpeg details you can't copy it.

Easy to work around though - freeware programs can normalize the id3 tags removing copyright and the like.

If the bitrate or filename of the mp3 is too big/long it can crash the conversion software. Rename or use the same freeware program to redo the bitrate.

Again in the software (that I have anyway) you can only transfer a song 3 times onto a minidisc - solved by simply re-importing/re-encoding the song

that's all I can think of for now.

It takes me about 40-50 minutes to encode and transfer a whole minidisc from scratch. Your supposed to be able to re-record over them 1,000,000 times. I'm on about 7.

Easily MP3. Lightweight and perfect for the gym.
The software is always easier to use. I've used about 15 different MP3 players and 2 MD players. In every case the MP3 software was better than the MD software.

Best one right now has to be Iriver's 256mb for $200. If you want a Jukebox, the Zen is 20GB but will cost $300.

MP3 players.... easier to load up music... cost half as much... not as delicate as a minidisc player.

If you want a minidisc player... you might as well get an iPod.

For nice mp3 players... go to www.iriver.com

for some reason it wouldnt let me vote.

i have both and i prefer mini disc.

the main reason is that instead of having to take old songs off to make room for new ones i just pop in a different disc.

the discs depending on what mode you record it in can have 80mins, 2.5hours, or 5hours worth of music on them. you can record over songs on the disc as much as you want, change the order of the songs, group songs, etc. also, the discs are fairly cheap.

of course you could get one of those mp3 players that hold like a million songs but those are expensive; its probably a pain to search thru all those songs too.

i have the sony net mini disc player and the samsung yepp mp3 player.

Dood, I LOVE my minidisk.

No skipping, I can put about 41 songs on each disk... I can rewrite the disks. It costs 10 bucks for 5 disks. I can quickly upgrade and change the disks on my computer. It is durable... and it basically rocks. :)

i voted for minidisc. Citruscide and Deadz have pretty much summed up all the pros but add SICK battery life to that list too.

Minidisk have been around for almost 10 years and it never made it through. Must be for a reason. The real deal was the portable DAT player. I had one (a Sony). The sound quality was incredible. 120 minutes of music at 48Khz. wow.

I'M GONNA BUMP THIS THREAD IN A FEW DAYS WHEN MY MPIO FL100 COMES IN. I'M LOVING THE THING ALREADY AND ITS NOT EVEN HERE YET!!! I KEEP READING ON IT THOUGH. I DONT THINK I'LL BE DISSAPPOINTED.

ONLY THING I MAY REGRET IS NOT GETTING THE 256 MB ONE. I'LL HAVE TO SEE SINCE ITS JUST FOR WORKING OUT AND JIU JITSU DRILLS.
