milk protein isolate

I found a place to get it real cheap. I know the casein will slow the absorption rate of the whey but by how much. Will I still get a spike from the whey , or is the whey absorbed at the same rate as the casein when they are mixed. Are there any studies showing any info on this or any benefits of milk protein over whey or casein alone.

in my opinion you should always mix proteins, except PW, where whey will get the job done. I you mix fast and slow protein together, they won't lessen nor increase the others half life, so go ahead you should use 2-3 proteins, plus some clean dietary fat always.

You both gave me contradicting info. davey boy says they wont effect each other and javaguru says it will. Who is right?

Milk isolate is 80% casein and 20% whey. One of the reasons whey is absorbed so quickly is its solubility, since its still "bound" to the casein it will not have an improved solubility. It will gel in the stomach like casein. Milk isolate and casein contain casomorphins which slow down absorption in the intestines (casomorphins temporarily "paralyze" the cilia). If anything, combining a scoop of casein protein with a scoop of whey will slow down the whey absorption but I don't know a study proving this so it's still conjecture. One advantage milk isolate has over casein is that microfiltration is gentle and maintains much of the subfractions which are destroyed by the acid processing ysed to seperate whey and casein. All things considered, outside of immediately before, during or after your workout milk isolate is superior to whey. It is also superior to casein due to the gentleness of processing which keeps many subfractions intact. Just my .02
