Any one a massage therapist? A friend of mine's wife is looking into going to school for it. I figure it's a nasty job rubbing down fat old men who keep requesting happy endings but he says it's not like that. They claim she'll make 80k doing this. Any input? I told him 80k? That's alot of handjobs!:D

80k doing massages? holy shit she will have to be giving happy endings

I KNOW QUITE A FEW M.T.'S. NONE OF WHICH MAKE ANYWHERE CLOSE TO 80K. HOWEVER, THAT MARKET IS VERY SATURATED DOWN HERE AND NEW ORLEANS CITY IS PRETTY SMALL. LESS THAN A MILLION PEOPLE.

 So if she does 40,000 handjobs, give or take, she'll do alright. She'll probably have carpal tunnel though!:D

MT's are a dime a dozen here in FTL. The amount you make depends more on tit and cock size than technique. My neighbor did private massages for about 4 years before meeting his current BF. He was averaging 75-100 per hour and making over 120K yearly. Now his BF wants him to have a "legitimate" job. So he applied and was made Supervisor of the Spa at the Marriott Hotel. He now makes about $55 per year but with no happy endings.

Massage therapists in Atlanta bring in about $40k. I don't think you can make much more than that around here. They need to rethink taht. It's probably the school promising them that kind of money, but the school just wants students.

It's a totally saturated market. The massage schools are in business to turn out massage therapists (MTs). The MTs are all hyped with the sales pitch of how much they can make a year. None of them EVER make great bucks.

Now do the math:

$80,000 = 800 x $100 (that's assuming she can make $100 a massage... here it is $30 per hour)

800 divided by 50 weeks of the year = 16 massages per week, roughly 3 a day

If she is working in LA where it goes for $30...

$80,000 = 2,666.66 x $30

2,666 divided by 50 weeks in the year is 53.32 massages a week. That's a little more than 10 a day in a five day work week.

Now add in the time it takes to advertise, cost of advertising, travel time or rental of an office, etc...

She is much better off going to school and becoming a physical therapist

Talk about a saturated market. If there's one market more saturated than massage therpay, it's physical therapy.

But you're right, she will make more money that way.
