Math Problem...Help me solve it so I can win a prize!

A farmer has 100 dollars and needs to buy exactly 100 animals. The 3 animals he has to choose from and their prices are listed below...and you have to buy at least 1 each of the 3. How many of each animals of each do you need to buy to spend 100 dollars exactly and hae exactly 100 animals? This isn't a trick question...just math.

The animals:

Pigs $10 each
Ducks $3 each
Chickens $0.50 each.

Anyone who gets it will be my friend!

Unfortunately, I have no idea how to graph it either, like SlickDadd was talking about.

I just pulled out a notepad and worked through a few different combinations, until I figured out some sort of solution.

I'm sure there's probably an even better way to do it, but I don't know what it is.

50 pigs would be $500, not $50. (Unless you distract the clerk by trying to get 5 pigs into your shopping bag, while your buddy shoplifts the other 45.)

what's with all these math problems recently? There isn't a third equation with exception of the fact that they x,y, and z have to be WHOLE numbers (no fractional animals allowed)

merge two formulas
10x+3y+.5 (100-x-y) =100

10x-.5x=9.5x + 3y-.5y+2.5y +50 - 50 =0 =100 -50 =50

19x + 5y = 100

solve for y
19x/5 + 5y/5 =y =100/5=20

y = 20 - 19x/5


solve for x

use whole numbers for x 0,5,10,15 to divide evenly with 19x/5

y =20 - 19(5)/5 = y =20-19
5=x 1=y

5+1=6
100-6=94

94 chickens * $0.5 = $47
1 pig * $3 = $3
5 cows * $10 = $50
