So I was in Whistler for a week.. I come back to work and then bail out for a long weekend in Mammoth.
The conditions were awesome. It had dumped snow that week, and on Saturday we got light dry snow all day, but no wind!
There was some great backcoutry boarding on many parts of the mountain. It was awesome.
Sunday there wasn't a cloud in the sky! it was sunny warm, a perfect day to hit the terrain park and practice jumping.
No real crazy stories.... except for the ride up.
We rented this 15 passenger Van, we had 12 people in there so it was tight. The guys were in the back two rows and the girls in the front. An hour into it we start passing around beers, and two bottles of liquor. We steadily finish a bottle of barcadi and captain morgan and we're all feeling good. We stop for a break and I put my beer on the roof and somehow it slips off and into the fucking van and exploded all over... drenched some girl's pillow in guiness.. that sucked.
So we are an hour and a half outside of Mammoth, we stop for gas and there at the gas station there are a group of guys there who's transmission broke and they are looking to ditch their car there and just get the Mammoth that night. Every guy except one found someone to catch a ride with... the last guy wants to go with us but we are already packed in there.
So one of the guys in our group comes to the van and says "In this time of struggle and tension throughout the world I think this would be the right thing to do" Most people in the van says no, but the guy tells the hitchhiker to jump in the back!
We are all in shock at this point, I don't care too much, but now its even more crowded and this dude smells like he drunk.
He gets in and is sitting behind me and says "Yo man do any of you guys smoke herb?".. My friend and I look at each other for a minute and then say "Nah that wouldn't be a good thing to do in the van.. the windows back here don't even open!"... the hitch hiker says "aw man, I was hoping i could stoke you guys out with a little bud.." My friend and I look at each other again for approval and then just tell him "yeah man, go for it!" So the guy is a professional, he's got a little light handy plus something to roll it on.. he rolls up a fat ass joint and starts passing it around. Almost instantly the entire bus is just a haze of smoke.. total hot box. The driver up front is like what the hell! They open up the front windows but the back of the bus is just thick with smoke.. about 6 people smoked the joint and were feeling good.. and a couple other non-smokers said they got a contact high!
About half the people though were pissed, and the other half didn't really care. We got to Mammoth fine, let the guy out and he went on his way... i was expecting him to ask for a place to crash too!
So I've had 11 days on a mountain boarding this season.. but I want MORE! Spring is coming but I want to get some more boarding in.
My new equipment rocks... Forum Destroyer 160cm. Drake f-70s.. Thirty-Two TEAM 2 boots.
