maltodextrin on ckd? yes/no

Can You use small amounts of maltodextrin on ckd? I'm talking about 15-25 grams that are in meal replacements. ON the labels of the meal replacements it says that they are low glycemic, but it was my interpretation that maltodextrin was just a fancy word for corn starch? Any thoughts would be appreaciated

Ummmm...take a look at any GI chart. Maltodextrin has a high glycemic index. Even if it didn't do you really think you can eat 18-25 grams of any carb in one sitting an stay in ketosis? Yes you are allowed 15 or 20 grams of carbs a day, but those should all be from high fiber, low glycemic index veggies, and maybe some nutts or cheese. MRP's are out if you are trying to do a keto diet.

I think maltodextrin would more effectively be used on a TKD than on a CKD, I think it would take away from some of the 'sweets' that you can enjoy during your carb-up on a CKD.
