maaco paintjob?

Okay, I know that you get what you pay for, and not to expect too much from a couple hundred dollar paint job. ...but, just how badly does the paintjob suck?

...my 10-year-old car's paint is about 50% oxidized away at this point, but it still is mechanically sound, so I plan on keeping it at least another year and a half or so. Would their cheapy paint job be worthwhile enough to last at least this long?

...also, I'm assuming you won't get metallic paints for the cheap option. My car's paint is a metallic red/burgundy. What would be the best color to choose to minimize the difference between the body and the doorjams/etc?

Maaco is ok for a regular paintjob, including metallic. Of course they dont know shit about exotic stuff like perlascent paint but that's not the issue here. It's a 10 yr old car and unless it has something special (Porsche, RX-7.....) I wouldn't invest too much on it.

I bought a car from a friend that had a $200 MAACO paint job. He did most of the prep work himself.

The paint is ultra thin. Scratch it and it goes straight through. It's like there's a single coat of paint on there and nothing more. It looked fine though. I'd opt for a little bit better than their basic paint job, otherwise you might get some healthy sized chips taken out from gravel being tossed back at you from other cars.

We had the car for 2 1/2 years and the paint that MAACO did still looked fine (hit a deer with the car after 6 months and had to replace the hood and one fender). There were little chips taken out of the hood paint during the 6 months prior to the deer though, and they made the hood look like shit.

Someone I know bought a silver Miata (really old, but low miles) and had it painted Corvette yellow. Not perfect, and you can tell it's a repaint every time she opens the trunk -- but to tell the truth, it's not that bad. She got some aftermarket door sills (black plastic) to finish it off and they make it look a little more professional.

Ten year old car, mechanically sound? Yeah, I'd go for it. Nobody likes a beater. If you sell it privately in a couple of years, you may get some bucks back and even if you don't you'll feel better about driving it.

its good if you are going to keep the car for 3 years or less.
