I have the original CD but I have lost product key for Windows XP Professional (service pack 2).
Does any one know if there is an application available to recover product key from the CD Rom?
My system crashed and I had to reload it. I have the CD but can't find the product key.

The key isn't part of the CD, the CDs are all identical.

Can the system boot at all?

If so, even if just into safe mode, there's an app that will tell you the CD Code of the Installed copy of Windows.

It wasn't going to Windows at all. It was just turning on and off without going to operating system. I think the problem was caused by AnyDVD and another non-compatible application (that was the last program that I loaded).
I removed the hard drive and scanned it on another system by using administrative tools. The files were corrupted.

I guess I would have to use a boot-legged copy from a friend for now.

Thanks.

If it's a "name brand" computer, there may be a sticker on the back panel of the case, or the bottom, with the CD Key on it.

If you have an original cd in hand I would call MS and just ask them what to do.

If you use a bootleg copy, be careful you don't get fucked in the ass by it. Don't let it do any Auto-Update stuff, or you'll get stuck with Windows Genuine Advantage which will keep nagging you until you send them money for a license.

I agree with Dial_tone, if your present XP CD is legit and you've just lost the key, call Microsoft support and they may help you recover it.
