Looks like it's time for W to have Putin "over to the house" again...

He is not too happy about George W's statement about the Axis of Evil. I think countries like Russia and France are afrain they are going to lose a source of oil in Iraq and Iran.

Putin doesn't want to mess with us anyway, see how we took care of Afghanistan in a few months when the old USSR couldn't do it in 10 yrs?

No problem, just bring him to Crawford and feed him some more BBQ and he'll be on our side in no time.

we still receive oil from Iraq ourselves.

I'm glad your idea of good diplomacy consists of a BBQ in crawford Texas.

Maybe if they eat together they won't choke. :fro:
But you're right, Putin will negotiate, as a matter of fact, isn't that what he is doing already? By speaking out as he is? The US won't take action vs Iraq, Iran or North Korea without "Russian Consent & Cooperation"

the russians have always rattled the sabre when we've attacked countries that have been previous customers to them in the past

now the US and russia are 'best buds' we will take more notice. i suspect bush will back off north korea (helping re-inforce the extremists point of view that he;s out to get islam) and try diplomacy, and perhps not risk open confrontation with iran.

id love to see a government warning be put on pretzel bags. that would make my day :) to be perfectly honest though, that sort of thing could happen to anyone. its just funny that he has to speak to people behind bullet proof glass yet a pretzel made him choke :)

North Korea has always wanted to negotiate directly with the US. We are not willing to, deferring to our ally South Korea. We want them to negotioate with SK first and to end that war (it never ended). NK refuses to negotiate with SK.

hopefully they will....the leaders of the two countries hav met and they didnttry and kill each other so thats a good start :)

then why is south korea upset with Dubya calling North Korea the Axis of evil. Saying NK refuses to negotiate with SK, is plain incorrect. They have been talking as of late.

It is true that they have begun to open communications. this is encouraging. But as far as negotiating an end to the war, the talks at Panamunjon have not reopened. This is what I refer to when I say negotiations.

sure, but I don't think calling north korea the axis of evil is going to make them run to the negotiating table. they do have some national pride you know.

Well guess what? Nothing we've tried has worked for the last 50 years. Maybe it is time for a new approach. Let's see how this works.

well I guess we'll see.

Back to Putin, if we do any kind of action in the area, we better have thier approval to some extent. Russia is still a player in that region. And they won't be happy to have us make moves there with out them knowing. They still have their own pride too, and not to mention a large stockpile of nuclear and chemical weapons and SCIENTISTS that they might look to sell to the highest bidder if we don't treat them as peers, or allies. After all, the russians did provide us and the northern alliance with much assistance against the Taliban and Al Quaida. They should be respected.

Are you still angry about bush calling evil regimes what they really are? EVIL. Maybe we should try to buy them off like clinton did when he offered Iran 2 nuclear power plants if they stopped trying to acquire nuclear arms. well guess what, they got their power plants and continued to look for nuclear weapons. The people that live in these countries are living in poverty thanks to a tyranical government (a type of government you would love if we had a black, transexual, pro-abortion, anti-religion, female with aids, that was the supreme dictator). You are opposed to these countries being called what they really are. EVIL. Remember when Regan called the soviet union 'the evil empire?' and all you liberals were bitching and moaning about that. Saying it is only going to make things worse. And when Reagan refused the Soviet Unions proposition to lower nuclear arms if we lowered our stock pile and got rid of SDI, you liberals were crying and moaning saying that we were putting the country in serious peril. well guess what, it's because Reagan didn't follow that shit that the Soviet Union collapsed, and when it did, you liberals were trying to take credit for your fantastic diplomacy. Do you people know you lie about everything or do you just live in your own fantasy world?

define evil.....define an evil country

explain how we have set up dictators that are the epitome of evil, yet still have the authority to label others

we needto create the image that we are not out to kill every muslim on this planet. we need to try and encourage diplomacy before we start putting peoples lives on the line. insulting another leaders country is not the way to do this

Yup. I certainly agree. That is why W needs to have Putin over again. I am dead serious about the title of this thread. By the way, that is where George W is skilled as a leader. I think he can charm Putin and get him on our side on this issue, as well as other world leaders and even democrats.

now that I can agree with. however putin has to come home at some point and not appear to be looking weak to the americans. if he can't, he's as good as gone and we'll have to deal with somone else.

having said that most russians are freezing their butts off looking for their next meal so they might welcome become buddies with america

ttlpkg, I wish I wasn't so busy, I'd be posting here. My kind of music. Though, apparently Putin isn't easily charmed. He didn't agree with Bush on the treaty, and he has been on record opposing any type of war/rhetoric with Iraq. Which is basically all it is at this point......American soldiers will die because Bush's dad failed to do the job 10 years ago. If that doesn't bother you "patriots", something is hollow about your flag-waving.

last time we had 2,500 tanks from saudi arabia plus airbases when we went into the gulf. thats a pretty big commitment from a muslim country. i wonder if we will have the same again?

How's it going GP? You say soldiers will die because of an incomplete job back in 91, but had we taken Baghdad back then we would have had the same deaths, so even if I accept your rationale it is a matter of putting off the inevitable, isn't it?

The war objectives at the time were met in 91. Saddam Hussein had a chance to fix the problem, if he had we would not be looking at going back in at all. Our military has more sophisticated weaponry today and Saddam is weaker, so it will cost fewer lives actually than if we had "marched on Baghdad" in 91.

We are prepared for that gruesome possibility.
