Looking to buy an old 4x4 Truck, opinions wanted...

Ok, I am looking to buy an older 4x4 truck. I plan on buying it mostly stock, then adding all the suspension lifts and etc. Here's what i'm deciding between.

1) 1972-1988 Chevrolet K5 Blazer

2) 1985-1988 Dodge Ram Charger

3) 1988-1995(I think) Ford Bronco

I don't know which one of these would be best for general muddin and wheelin. I am not into rock climbing so I wouldn't be using it for that. What are your thoughts? Does anyone own any one of these vehicles? Iron

Darktooth, a '78 would wheel pretty good, but the years he's looking at basically sucked

If you want a kickass wheeler, try to find an early 70's K5. They are easy to lift and gear up, they wheel great, and they look fucking great.

Dodge's suck

DO NOT BUY A FORD

Go for the Blazer....4x4s are one thing i know about...and a blazer= cheap to lift, big tires with easy fit, dependable 350 engine with a hellacious 4 speed tranny and transfer case.....you cant go wrong....id get a 70s k5 without a doubt...i have two friends with them....they go anywhere.

I agree that the early 70s K-5s look great, but 72 and earlier are IMPOSSIBLE to find parts for. Unless you know someone with an inventory of parts for one of those - STAY AWAY. Otherwise, I would strongly recommend a K-5 Blazer. Any aftermarket item that you buy will be the lowest price offered for a Chevy - Ford are more, and Mopar even worse. Like Soon said, parts are dirt cheap for anything with a 350, plus between 1973 and 1988, they are more or less all the same, so parts are plentiful. One cool thing to consider - If you can find a 73-75 in good shape, the entire top comes off - otherwise only the rear portion. I had a 77 with a 6" lift and 36" Swamper Radials for about 4 years - much fun, and with the limited slip differential in the rear and the granny 4spd, it would damn near climb a building.
