Depends on what state you're in.....here in DE the state only as a last resort will try for TPR -- termination of parental rights.....the state of DE believes that the child is best off with the biological parent no matter what the bio parent does to the kid....
go to your court house and ask for the state parental guidelines, there you should find your answers.. Each state is different. and it all depends on if you are divorcing, trying to take custody, things like that...
I guess in that case you demand a paternity test if she comes to you and says surprise you are a daddy.. And if you turn out to be Dad, then you get visitation and you pay support, go for joint custody, that way you get a say in everything about the child. Well I dont know if I should say good luck or what. Hope everything turns out for the best.
I dont know how it works in FL, but here in IN the courts will not allow a parent to terminate parental rights, they feel you helped to make the child you should help to raise it. I would look into your state guidelines if I were you. I really cant tell you about your state.
