Lawn Mowers...ZTR.

This thread should get 500 hits my lunch time.

Anyone have a Zero-Turn Riding lawn mower? I'm thininkin g about getting one, but was interested to know if they are worth the price or would a walk behing be a better option.

I hate seeing people with postage stamp size yards with big ass lawn mower's! They look silly and lazy!

I see my neighbor's lawn boy with the type mower you're talking about. It's takes him 10 minutes to mow her yard! She has a fairly large yard too!

Nothing runs like a Deer.....

I have over an acre to do. Not much, but alot to push....plus all the time edging and weed wacking takes awhile.

I don't know what kind we have. It's a Craftman thing. It's cool! It has headlights, an automatic tranny and a cup holder. The reason why my husband got it was because they said unlike some tractors it's actually built a lot like a car. We have an acre and 1/4. We don't have it all cleared, but our yard is fairly large. It would take 4 hours to do it with a walk behind. My husband can get the whole thing done in 30 minutes.

The zero turn mower is overpriced IMO.
John Deer makes an into low end rider that is nice.
I had a low end riding Murray with Hydrostatic drive.
If you get a rider this is a must.
Has a pedal that you press like a gas pedal foward or back to control the speed.
Briggs Stratton IC commercial engine
Dana transmission rear end

Since moving from the 8 acres to the subdivision, I bought a self propelled TORO recycler mulching walk mower at Home Depot.

Guaranteed to start engine on less than 3 pulls for 2-3 years.

She has never pushed a mower in her life.

I don't do laundry, she doesn't do grass. That's the deal, and I think I made out on it.

Flexy....Craftsman is okay IMO, the motors are really good in them....usually they are Toro, Briggs and Straton, or Kohler....but their fit and finish is sometimes lacking and their rear ends are known to blow out....much like Poyeboy's. It is a hit or miss with their stuff.....I use to work for Sears in college and seen many come back with upset customers.

I think I may go with a New Holland since I can get the A plan on them....thet just don't have ZTR's that I am aware of.

that's good to know. This is our first house and Sears was having a sale. We didn't know anything about mowers. I always used a walk behind when I did the lawn at my parents house(yes I cut the grass!). We will have to keep an eye on it.

Yep...just do all the preventive maintenance on the rear end...i,e. lube...again Poyeboy can help on this. :)

Like I said...the engines in them are good, so usually no worries there.

I actually love mowing the yard! I do not do a good enough job though..Well..Not good enough for my hubby! He has the type of lawn everyone envy's. It's an obsession of his!

BB, we own a John Deer. If we've ever had a problem they are great about taking care of it. Matter of fact, we've always owned JD's.

My father in law has a BIG tractor( I think he paid close to 20k for it. He also has 7 acres to take care of too)

Lawnboy's are a good brand as well- either for a rider or a push!

Be sure to get the front wheel drive and the elect. ignition start on ANY push start brand you buy!

When we bought the walk behind, Mrs Y damanded the self propell model saying "just in case I ever have to mow"

I laughed...

If I was struck down, her second call after 911 would be to the local lawn service company..

LOL@Mrs. Y-lifter!

I love the look on my old man's face when I fix or repair stuff around the house! It's the look of: 'Shit, she don't need me so I had better toe the line".

:-)

If anyone can explain to me why i read every post in this thread, i would appreciate it.

Holy shit.
