Laptop batteries

Ok all you laptop having broskies, let's hear it. Im probably getting a laptop here in the near future. How long do Your batteries last in those puppies. And does anyone know the max a battery will last, be it top of the line or whatever.

Depends on what the laptop is doing and if it's a standard battery.

Watching a DVD ?
You might not even get through it. 1.5 - 2 hours

Just doing basic computing ?
2.5 - 3 hours

Lith Ion is what most are, and they are getting better at making
the laptop more efficient so the battery lasts longer.
Not making batteries better IMO..

It really depends upon what your power settings are. Are you playing a DVD or playing solitare? Most laptops have settings that throttle the cpu (if you want) to save batteries. If you plan on doing lots of work with it where it can't be plugged in, I'd highly recommend getting 2 batteries for the laptop.

ahhh....2 batteries. Brilliant. I was thinking mostly being a dork and playing video games or something. So probably in between computing and DVD stuff. Damn, i thought it would somehow be magical and last much longer.

4 hours or so? it varies. also depends on what kind of work you're doing on it while on battery power.

4 hours? Damn.

Our field people are lucky to get an hour.

Of course, it might have something to do with the fact that they're using notebooks and batteries that are 5 years old.

If you are buying one of those Alienware laptops with a normal P4 in them.... I'm guessing a battery will melt down pretty damn quick.

Oh, and make sure the laptop has a bay for the 2nd battery.
You can't swap batteries in mid compute as you would lose power.

You can.. Save/power off/insert 2nd batt/power up,
but you would break the suspence of the Powerpuff Girls movie your were watching.

I resemble that remark. I'm going all digital in the house. The kids cartoons are stored on the computer. No more fricken vcr tapes in this house.

nb: nah, where i'll be i will have to rely on just batteries (brothel)

y lifter: even after 33 viewings, it still gets you on the edge of your seat.

Is that movie any good? I haven't decided if it's worth renting or not.

ha. also if you let the batteries die all the time i think that affects performance too.

lith ion batteries have a finite lifespan of recharge/discharge cycles on them. When they start to die... They hold little to no charge at all.

And they are mighty expensive to replace.

RENT ? Hell buy the Video and DVD just in case they don't have a
DVD player at the house you're sleeping over at..

I love my Playhouse..

Man those chicks are hot.

Personally, I know they aren't Invincible..

My Daugher will occasionally come tearing thru the house yelling
"GIRL POWER", bust ass over something and end up crying.

Take the battery out while plugged into A/C to avoid a battery recharge.

Try to avoid recharges until battery is at 50% or less.

Recharging the battery shortens the life.

LOL... think about this comment outside of this context....

I have a few dozen lithium batteries. A recharge cycle shortens the battery life even if it only takes it from 95% to 100%.

Don't you have better things to do?

I'm not writing for publication....just advising him to minimize recharge cycles.
