LA during the summer - Need some help

Heres the deal. Me and two buddies are going to leave texas and head out to LA for the summer. None of has have been and want to experience something different. The only problem is I dont have a clue about california. Can anyone tell me what areas I would want to look for a place to stay to be closest to the action? Also, what kind of summer jobs are common down there? We're just sick of sitting home all summer when we could be doing something new. Any help would be great.

correct me if im wrong:

but from all the research I have done, You can get a 2/3 bedroom apartment for about 2,000-2,500 (700-800 / person) a month right? i even found some places that had paid utilities. And from all the job ads (waiters, front desk at hotel, ect..) the minimum pay is around $11/hr. Now if i worked 30 hrs a week, thats about $1080 an month after taxes. now I am going to rent my house for the summer and make an additional $350 a month on top of that. If we saved about a thousand dollars before we left, then I think as long as we dont blow money we'll have enough. Does any of this sound off? I dont know because I have never been there.

Area? Does it tell you what area of the city they are getting those rents?

My hubby does biz in Chino..Sub of LA...He has had to rent for a few months, in order to get a good place- rather safe..His compnay PAID BIG BUCKS.

Trust me. YOU location is key when it comes to LA.

I have been to Compton for work myself...Not such a good area..TRUST ME!

LOCATION LOCATION LOCATION! Check it out before you decide on ANYTHING!

speaking of location, what do you think about that? I am trying to find the balance between affordability and the nicest place possible. what cities are close enought to all the action but slightly more affordable than the high dollar hotspots?

k bro, I live in LA, and if your gonna find a place to live you better have a hotel for a long period of access, to get an apartment you have to do that regualr shit, 20 bucks for a credit check on each apartment and first and last months rent, you can get some good locations for a decent price, the best place to live if your just being here for a summer is I would say inglewood, it is majority black but it is close to everything, 15 minutes from every hot part of LA.......a 2br will run you 750 a month. Now over in Santa monica or venice, downtown, or culver city you are lookin at 1000 and up bro...............and thing about LA is you gotta have money, know someone, and a car, and to just get by minimum for all your personal needs, such as daily activities you need about 175 dollars for a week, and that means you aint doin shit except eaiting and paying for gas. I can give you some numbers for apartments and maybe you can do a credit check via fax machines and get a place ready for when you get here, as far as the best hotel that is the marina pacific hotel in venice, you can pull it up on yahoo under marina pacific hotel, it is one block from the venice beach boardwalk..........I can answer any questions you have I will contact you by email.

bro check your mail.............where in texas you live, my cousin lives one hour from houston. down in freeport
