Ketoprofen

Would Ketoprofen (a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug = NSAID) be useful while you don't suffer tendonitis yet but you experience the first symptoms of inflammation ?

[I suffer off and on with tendonitis for a couple of years now and I have learned to interpret the first symptoms]
 
if you suffer inflammation due to prostaglandin, an anti-inflammatory will work in reducing it....have other OTC NSAIDS like ibuprofen worked?

I'd try the less potent ones first and work upwards (assuming you havent already tried this)

sorry im not more help...more of a bump really but if you dont think its tendonitis what do you think it is and where is the pain?
 
Actually I think it is the first stage of tendinitis (I feel a slight inflammation and pain) and I know that if I don't stay quiet for a while I will be in trouble

Problem is I don't want to take a week off , I don't really know what exercice to avoid (either flat bench, or pull-ups or behind the neck movements) and, last but not least I don't know if drugs help

are you feeling it in the shoulders? or in the elbow...those lifts sound like the shoulders..rotator cuff in particular for behind the neck...

and what movements produce the pain?

tried any supps (glucosamine etc)?


the problem with long term NSAIDuse is that limited inflammation is necessary for healing so if you tookit for too long it woiuld reduce healing. also spatts posted an article here a while ago showing the catabolic effects on muscle and ligaments of some NSAIDs when taken long term (i think they studied ibuprofen)

I would say lateral Deltoid

Flat bench and lateral raising shoulders movements, dips, pull-ups

Neither glucosamine nor chondroitin or MSM
Just NSAIDs

What's more I once used topic + oral NSAIDs and I ended hurting myself even more since I didn't feel so much the pain
 
yeah i guess that is a danger of it use (the pain masking the worsening of the injury)

IMO the exercises you mentioned all hurt the rotator cuff when its injured, and lateral raises test the abduction of the arm, which is painful in rotator cuff injury (which usually is supraspinatus injury)

however the rotator cuff is prone to injury, and especially in the lifts you describe. it should be worst for the lateral raises and behind the neck stuff...behind the neck stuff also increases your risk of injury of the r.cuff

is the pain worse towards the top of the shoulder or lower down the arm?

Either way it seems some strngthening exercises for the r.cuff make sense...there is a whole rehab program for it, assuming it is a rotator cuff problem...if it is i would take some time off as it means you can let it heal up. but to me it sounds like it is, unless someone else on the board thinks differently?

for my injuries to it I was advised and read about isometric exercises...lateral raises against the wall for example puching up against it and trying to increase the time spent pushing

then going to actual weights but doing high reps at a much lower weight (something like 50% of working) and building up from there...

i have a huge article on it at another computer....if i use it anytime soon I'll try to remember to post to it, it deals soecifically withthis kind of stuff
