Karma explaination please!

OK so I understand how the basics of Karma works:
each member has a "Karmic Power".
when a member rewards karma to another member they can choose 10-110% of their karmic power to award the other member
This gives the awarded member that % of the awarding member's karmic power

The awarding member does not lose karma in the transaction.

I understand all of that
How the heck do you increase your karmic power?
Also, what do the different colors of the green boxes (and other icons) near your karma info mean?

you increase your karmic power in 3 ways.

1)length of time on the site
2)number of karma hits
3)number of posts

You get k power for increasing all 3 of those stats.
