1000K
first hint
The ship was built in the UK

I had to do a photo quiz as it's too easy to search for answers for typical trivia

look at the turret and notice the observation ports for the gunners

Never mind, the Dorsetshire is somewhere on the bottom of the Indian Ocean.

good hint

"A floatplane from the cruiser TONE finds Admiral Sir James Somerville's British Eastern Fleet's cruisers HMS CORNWALL and HMS DORSETSHIRE at sea - without air cover. Between 1338-1400, 88 aircraft from the AKAGI, HIRYU and the SORYU sink both ships."

I love how people read. 4Ever said it was built in the UK and there are guesses of USS Roosevelt, USS Alabama and USS Imbecile.

due to the difficulty I'm upping the ante to 5000K

next hint
this vessel was a nation's former flagship in a very historically significant action

HMS Delft? HMS Wedgewood? HMS Fiestaware? HMS Lenox?

I guess I should say "HMS" or Her Majesty's Ship

Anyone prefacing it with USS is just stupid or polluting the thread

I'll make it 10K for fucking with you
the clues you need are there now

and BTW you can kind of figure it was a UK manufactured vessel
the "Hood"
had only double barreled turretsclassified as a (pre-dreadnought) battleship. (4 x 12-inch guns main armament in two twin turrets.)

Became "Commemoration" ship in 1925, major restoration project completed 1961.

One of the few surviving examples of a predreadnought Battleship.

She blew up in 1905 or 1906, sank, and was refloated and repaired. Also, she is the ONLY surviving predreadnought, just as the USS Texas is the only surviving dreadnought.

I visited the USS Texas when I lived in Houston '72-'73

Its the Mikasa

Displacement:15,140tons,Speed:18knots,Main Armament:4 x 30 cm,Secondary Armament:14 x 15 cm,Auxillary Armament:20 x 8 cm

Keel laid by Vickers in Barrow, England 1900

Fought in the Battle of Tsushima (vs. the Russians, decisive victory for Japan, 1905) as flagship.

Decommsioned in Sept 1923 (due to Washington Naval Conference).

Good thread, 4everhung. The Japanese liked to buy British ships-of-the-line to study British shipbuilding techniques.
