I feel like a 16 year old kid. I can't legally drive any vehicles here even though I'm 26 and can drive in the States.
I have been going through the process of trying to get just my scooter license, until then just renting bikes - which doesn't require any license at all. I need my passport, a doctor's certificate saying I'm not likely to die at the wheel or have epileptic fits, and I can see decently. And I need my work permit.
Finally got all that resolved and got down there today - nearly here 6 months and just now getting it.
Got to the test and hadn't studied at all and had absolutely no clue at all about any of the road laws here. I knew that we drive on the left, that you give way to the right, and you don't honk at the horse carraiges.
The woman scoring it said I nearly set a record and had the highest score of the day.
I'm a genie - and I do well on multiple choice tests where you can see the whole test - you can cross reference questions to narrow down answers even further.
Now tomorrow I have my driving test on the bike - it turns out my bike is actually considered a motorcycle, even though it looks nothing like one - all whopping 125cc of it (the most they allow here).
I'm going to practice some on my rental bike this evening with a coworker here that is nice to me, and then will return that tomorrow and then take my own bike illegally over to take the test and hope that I don't fail.
All I know is that it involves driving between cones and stopping - that would be easy if you had to do it fast, but you have to do it very slowly and you can't put your feet down.
It should be much easier on my own bike b/c it is heavier and has a better response in the engine than the crappy rental.
I feel pretty damn cool - like a 16 year old with new found potential freedom.
