I was watching t.v. and saw that they were advertising Avodart (dutasteride) for prostate problems. Now why in the world has Avodart not been ever advertised or used for hairloss??? Does it not really help hair more then propecia, and people really dont know it? Whats going on with this?

Not sure. I've never seen an ad for dutasteride for hair loss - and the research I recall showed dutasteride to target the particular 5-AR located in the scalp and skin, whereas finasteride was active specifically at the prostate.

Either on will effectively reduce test/dht conversion.

I wonder if their still riding the propecia/proscar wave on the hair scene, and raking plenty of $$ off dutasteride from the prostate angle.

I bet it's just a matter of time before dutasteride has a new comercial name as a hair loss treatment.

some compounding pharmacies are making dutasteride injections mixed with IGf-1 (not the long r)

had tremendous results. but infringes on avodart so they dont push it too much.

I'm not certain of either drug, but the FDA will only allow them to "promote" or advertise for what ever treatment it has been cleared or approved.

Even though it can be used, prescribed any way an MD chooses.
