Posting this publicly JIC anyone else was eyeing ethanol.

You asked about water consumption in fuel ethanol plants. I told you it was *very* low, but the numbers I had were how much water was contaminated by an ethanol plant -- not total water consumed.

Turns out a *ton* of water is lost to evaporation, particularly in the feed drying and solubles evaportation -- as much as 3.0 gallons of water per gallon of ethanol produced.

I stand corrected.

Let's fix Iraq first. I personally think we should sit down with Kuwait, Saudia Arabia, Iran, and Turkey. The have to agree to the following:

1) They agree to immediately stop sponsoring terrorism and agressively hunt-down terrorists.

2) No nuclear development whatsoever. None.

3) No more oil cartels. If you have oil, pump it and do so at competitive rates.

Each country that agrees to (1) and (2) can now participate in the next round.

1) Each eligible country enters negotiations on how to carve-up Iraq

2) We agree to continue building Iraq's infrastructure through 2009, at which point each country is responsible for their "piece" of Iraq.

3) If they adhere to all the terms listed above, and demonstrate control over their piece of Iraq through 2012, then that piece becomes their sovern territory -- oil included.

HTH :)

hmmm... so is that water that can be condensed and returned to the system in some way?
A lot of water already is, but once you start dealing with higher-solids content such as the left-over grain and solubles that are dried for feed, the water becomes much harder to recover.

Ethanol and water alone are easy to seperate without a lot of loss, but the water in solids is where the losses come from.

Also, Delta-T, one of the process technology companies now claims that they are down to 2.2 gallons of water used per gallon of ethanol produced.
