How can a judge let his personal feelings into a case, and even talk about what would happen if they were in that situation, but jurors cannot and will be dismissed from the case if they did?

the law is so fucked up. what is a 20 year felony in one state is a slap on the wrist in another. one judge will give you life and another will give you 10 years. one jury will convict, one will become hung on the same evidence.
