Me, well, I am often asked what am I? I simply tell them that "I" am an empirical scientist.
By empirical standards, you simply have no basis to be an atheist except for your own leap of faith. Probably brought on by a personal experience, of which, can be discounted especially if it involved pedophilia.
The axe to grind, the ex who was overtly religious that swayed your personal thinking. All must be discounted on the search for the truth.
You cannot, empirically say, that there is no God. You could only Rationally say, (drawn on your biased viewpoints, cognition or whatever got you from ontological point A to epistemiological point B). Which, you must admit, is simply you.
So you, should not be the sole reason to believe in a philosophy if it were to be based on truth. You would have to discount you, in order to find the real truth devoid of your own biases.
Hence, rejecting your personal rationalisms, and understand empirical science.
WHich is just rationalism to a higher standard of reason

Harmonica, yes, in some sense you are a bit more understanding, a.s I mentioned, empiricism is a slightly higher order of formed thought than that rationalism. Which Atheism is a product of.
A.s an Empiricist, you can not rule out the existance of God, unless, you were God.
Hence, Atheism falls in the same banal category of rational belief systems a.s does Christian, Muslim or any organized religion that is "Taught" to people.
Having not a viewpoint of "allknowing". It simply is illogical to be atheist, a.s Spock might easily point out.

Being a militant Atheist, is not simply about a logical process of understanding of one's surroundings.
It is more of passive-aggressive assault on people who he feels has wronged him in the past. a.s pointed out by famed FBI profiler John Douglas.
The motivation is not, truth, but striking out against so called oppressors.
I am this, therefore, I will anger you when you realize I am this. I will, by passive-aggressive means, be able to upset you or my belief system upset you and thereby congratulating my behavior with said action.
The whole atheism process is not about true beliefs, but more of a kneejerk reaction to past perceived wrongs to said individual. Acting out is their mechanism of self-therapy.
The truth is simply, there is no way to prove or disprove God, to take either position is simply a religious matter and a leap of faith. The god-fearing Christian or Muslim is no different than the atheist. They both have neither a clue a.s to what really is
