Ive never had a cellphone , which should i get

i think i just want a basic phone, i dont need to take pics or use internet . I dont even know how to use it. EVeryone i know has a phone and when they call it starts with the same number.
What kind of phone is the phone were you have to use a card. I want a phone more for people calling me , then me calling them i guess. IM not sure how i get a number
 
Which country are you in?

The number comes from a small chip which slots into the inside of the phone called a SIM card. If you buy a phone from the shop then it should come with a SIM card. If you can pick up someone's old phone which they just haven't yet thrown away then you want to be sure either that it will take any vendor's SIM or that the one it's locked to runs a pay-a-you-go service (PAYG). In the UK these are common, I don't know about elsewhere.

It's increasingly hard to find basic phones but they should now be dirt cheap.
 
if youre a rank newbie, id get a cheapie nokia because theyre very easy to use (ie their menu structure is what most people think is logical), and are solid phones. cant go too wrong with a nokia, plus, they can take a beating if you drop them a lot. if you want lots of features etc the techy brands like samsung and sony (and pricier nokias) start to shine, but for the most part, its not worth it. one of my mates was the best phone salesmen in the state (not taht its too populous here, but thats not the point ;) ) and his sales pitch was simple: "this nokia is great. it has buttons. you can make calls, and it takes a beating. the rest of the features are bullshit - if you want to listen to mp3s, buy an mp3 player. if you want to take photos, get a digicam, because the technology they cram into phones is still crap and expensive"

everyone thought he was mad but the numbers spoke for themselves :)
 
im in the usa , i was thinking i wanted to be cingular , not sure what that means. I dont want a calling card , i want a phone number

where do you see that deal , also How do you get a phone number when you get it. Also whats the difference in verizon and cingular. i dont need to take pics or text message. I just want a phone

I agree I think the razer is so cool. Is yours black Humorme? I wish we had them in Canada.

sprint and nextel have free incoming calls plans. i have sprint and the free incoming is outstanding. last month alone i had 2498 incoming minutes... all free

Yes it is. They only had silver when I got mine but I made them order a black one for me.

I paid around that same price during the time most people were paying $400-500 for them
 
Cingular is good. YOu can talk free to anyone who have cingular and At&t.


They usually check your credit history when your planning to buy a phone. So yes , you need to have a credit card.

For billing they would send you a billing statement every month Or you can usually dial 611 to pay your bill.

i ended up paying close to 300.00 for mine. got it when it first came out. had some extra cash and wanted new toy. now you can get one for 40.00 if you go to the right place. shitheads.
 
First let me congratulate you on joining 2005 in it's last stretch! I have a Virozon and it get great reception. I rarely lose a call. Check them out. ;)

Rarely lose a call.......lmao... You might wanna dump that phone a try a Dick-ta-phone or maybe even the Bone-a-phone. You gotta get your mouth real close to make sure the other person can hear you ;) Try it you might like it

I prefer a clam-shell myself. Bearded clam, that is. I think we're drifting off-topic, though. ;)
 
Get the cheapest one that´s not too big or heavy to comfortably carry around.

Get one with a long battery time. Its very frustrating when they die all the time.

I have a Nokia 3120 now. They run like 89 bucks without a subscription now and have 420 hours of battery time, the longest I have seen. Its small and light enough.

You do not need anything else. Phones fall, break, get soaked, and devaluate like a bastard anyway. And this one looks fairly nice even. 1000 dollar phones look nerdy

You dont seem to really even know the system yet-

The SIM card is like a little chip you can put into different phones. It has your number and message and phone number memory. If you stick your SIM card into another phone and somebody calls you on the same number you will receive the call on your new phone see.
 
i'm partial to Tmobile for 2 reasons:

1. theyre teh cheapest. not sure why

2. they DONT MAKE YOU SIGN UP FOR A 2 YEAR PLAN. You can actually get a free phone off a 1 year plan with tmobile. other carriers will only discount their $150 phone by $50. the best part is, in a year you can either leave, or stay and get a new phone
