I started working out in January because my wife got me a membership to the local gym for my 23rd birthday. At 250lbs I started out slow REALLY slow, 15 mins cardio and about 30 mins with weights 3 times. I continued that for about a month and lost 6 pounds. By mid February I discovered this website and started getting pretty hardcore jumped to 30 mins cardio and 1 hour weight training 5 days a week, I also started taking ECAs within 3 weeks I had dropped another 15 pounds, during the month of april I dropped down to 210 by starting the CKD diet plan and continuing the ECAs. now it's may 3rd and today I dropped the sliders on the scale to 196. To tell the truth I feel great, I look great and I'm getting into extreme hiking, like climbing up a water falls and 2 mile walks through the wilds. Problem is Ii don't eat because I'm never hungry. I drink low carb protein shakes (2 a day) and eat low carb foods like maybe 1 can of vienna sausages sausages. Here comes the problem my family believes that I've become anorexic. Also constipation is getting pretty bad but I believe thats because of my low food intake. It's getting to the point where my wife wants me to seek professional help. I don't think I need it because I don't feel the least bit sick or weak. As a matter of fact my muscles are getting a nice tone look, and I never stop having a lot of energy. I personally think the reason I'm loosing so much weight is because I'm building lean muscles and thats increasing my metabolism, which in turn burns fat even when I'm not working out. So the question is, how can I explain this to my wife? or am I going to far with this diet? Thinking about it 54 pounds in 4 months does seam a little to much, so is that natural? Oh and btw I am 6' 1” tall

:fro:

First of all, congradulations on the weight loss. Dropping 54 ibs takes alot of hard work. Due to the fact that you have just stated lifting you have probably gained a few ibs of muscle despite being on a diet, so you have actually lost more than 54 ibs of fat. Is that a lot to lose in 4 months, most definately. It might be somewhat unhealthy, but its a little late now, it would only put a further strain on your body if you were to gain it back. However, you clearly seem to feel better, thus has probably not impacted your heath dramatically.
Constipation is fairly common on low carb diets, due to the lower fiber content. My advice is to add some nuts, and low carb veggies (such as broccoli or romaine). A sugar free fiber suppliment once or twice a day would help too. Try to increase your water intake. Make sure you are getting AT LEAST one gallon a day. I went through the same thing with my family. Most of the people in my father's family are fat, and have horrible diets. While in high school I slipped a disk in my back and broke my ankle at the same time. I gained 60 ibs of fat in one year because of inactivety and more free time on the my hands to sit around and eat pizza and other ice cream. A little over three years ago I made a resoultion to get into shape (6 months later I decided I wanted to compete). I went from 255 ibs to 175 ibs in about 7 or 8 months. All I heard from my father's family was that I looked horrible, unheathy and that I didn't eat. They thought I was starving myself, and would constantly try to get me to eat when around them, of course it would piss them off when I would eat ALOT of food around them (all low or zero carb food of course). After some of them saw that I ate a fair amount of food, they started accusing me of going to the bathroom and vomiting it up. Don't worry about it, they are just jelous of what you have accomplished. None of the people in my family talk crap about me now that I am 5'8" 218 ibs and 7% bf. They all come to me for diet advice, training advice etc. Tell them to f**k off like I did, and eventually it will stop.

man....that's wierd....people accusing you of being anorexic and shit.....god forbid someone should make a decision to have a lifestyle change and actually stick by it.

props to you guys for being dedicated to the cause.

definitly need to get the fiber & water...and make sure you are getting vitamins.

Fiber one by TWIN lAB - 3 at meal time - works for me every day - when I skip I don't go to the bathroom and they are the only ones that worked for me - all the other they sell at the stores were garbage - I got these from dpsnutrition and swear by them.

Sounds like the ECA's severely curbed your appetite, which really accelerated your weightloss (15 lbs in 3 weeks). Prevailing opinion is that if you starve yourself, your body begins to burn muscle for fuel while trying to preserve fat. My question is about this. Speaking from experience, what do you think about this? Sounds like you didn't experience this. Also, what BF percentages are we talking here? At approx 200lbs, what is your bf?

Congratulations on all your hard work!

I had the same problem on my CKD, my mom kept telling me it was unhealthy, she knew i ate but said i ate only meats... which was true, it was a big problem in my house but eventually i went off the diet and took up one like hansel's. from last june i just started getting hardcore in about march. Last june i weighed 190 and was 5'11. now im 6'1" at 168 with at least a 7 percent difference in bf. (i dont know what i was at before but i am at 12-13 now and i lift a ton more with alot more muscle mass on me)

My quest to thinness is almost over, Now that i know what to eat i can EASILY stay at the same weight. So when i get down to 9% sometime in the next few months (hopefully very soon). I will sit at that weight for a bit with some moderate lifting to gain a little weight. I will bulk cleeanly half way through the summer. Should be no problem. I plan on competing once i turn 18. So i still got a year and a half :)
