Is this school failing?

Here are a list of incidents that have happened within the last 9 months and what has been done about them (where appropriate). Would you want your kids going to this school?

The Headteachers brand new Audi was petrol bombed on school property.

ACTION: Fuck all. Nobody was caught or prosecuted.

A white female teacher was cornered in a corridor by a gang of pakistani lads and sexually assaulted. She was then told that they were going to rape her.

ACTION: Teacher was told to go into a room with the boys involved to discuss the situation with them. The teacher refused and left the school. The boys each received a 2 day exclusion.

Persistant truancy and abuse by a hard core of pupils.

ACTION: Fuck all.

Many thefts!!

ACTION: Fuck all.

Headteacher assaulted by a Year 9 girl who was smoking a spliff on site!!

ACTION: Parent came into school and was allowed to argue that her daughter did nothing wrong. Daughter received a 5 day exclusion.

Several cases of vandalism on teachers cars.

ACTION: Nothing......it is against police policy to attend such incidents.

Hundreds of smashed windows!!

ACTION: As above.

Teachers physically assaulted on a regular basis.

ACTION: Heads of Year regularly do nothing because they know their decisions are very very likely to be overturned by those above them.

A white boy was jumped by half a dozen non-white kids as they were meant to be preparing for an exam. Fortunately the white lad is a shit hot kickboxer and didnt get badly hurt.

ACTION: White lad gets isolated whenever he has to come into school to do an exam. The others get away scott free despite eye witnesses giving names.

Total refusal of the management team to accept that the kids are at least part of the problem.

RESULT: Pissed off teachers.

Total refusal of the management team to set a firm line........instead the teachers have to be nice and smile and apparently the kids will respond.

RESULT: Pissed off teachers.

Several trouble makers walk out of the Headteachers assembly......they push past several senior members of staff in the process. They were told that they would be isolated for a day because of this.

ACTION: Punishment withdrawn.........offenders get away scott-free.

I for one would not want my kids in this environment. I consider the school to be failing miserably. Just wanted to vent :) Sorry!!!

We were real big on smoke bombs, but that was about it.

Perhaps your bast option to get action taken quickly by the relevant authorities is to threaten go to or actually go to the media with that story. Some newspapers would love a story like that.

That sounds kinda rough........fortunately you cant get Tear Gas over here. Its sad that nobody who has the power to do something has the bottle to do it. In my school there is the odd bit of talk about organising a whole staff walkout (excluding management of course). It would make my day if this happened......or the good kids all decided to go to the press.

Imnotdutch, I went to a Catholic grade school, and then switched to a public high school. My high school was having similar problems, minus the sexual assault. In the spring of my 10th grade year, a boy let off a tear gas bomb in the cafeteria. The girl 10 feet in front of my lost part of her right lung. They let the boy back into class the next week...he walked right into my geometry class. I got up and walked out, as did a few others. I went home that day and told my parents I wanted to drop out of high school and start college, and they were behind me 100%. I started college that fall. There's NO WAY I'd put up with that. Incidentally, my son is homeschooled.

Oh I know that :)

You have to play it carefully though don't you. You don't want to create a reputation for yourself as a troblemaker (which I'm sure you are not), but future schools may be hesitant. What area is this school in?

You are dead on..........though many schools have similar problems so individual schools dont need to be identified. School is in West Yorkshire.

Yeah I know it would be stupid to be plastering the name of the school on the internet. I never knew that things were as bad as this in some schools, at my old school if someone was late for a lesson or cut in line at the tuck shop then they were considered rebellious.

Schools with a strong leadership that sets strong boundaries for kids tend to be as you describe. Only problem is, this approach is considered old school and thuggish for some reason that I totally fail to comprehend.

There is now a growing trend for new management to adopt the softly softly approach..........which backfires in schools where the kids come from tough areas.

I went to an old school run by Catholic brothers , many were ex boxers (names like "Buster" and "Razor" were par for the course), one guy used to remove his watch before he started smackin ya , another one was called "Lugser" cos he kept hittin boys around the ears....ah yes...
I loved that old school , I dont condone violence against children in any circumstance but some of those kids were taking away the chance for an education from the others. And those old brothers commanded respect , they meant to have it and woe betide anyone who wasnt gonna give it to them. They never humiliated any of the boys verbally or physically (no caning) but they didnt take shit either. They were men and expected you to behave in a similar manner.
There was this one guy , huge ex-boxer , a lay (history) teacher actually , brilliant man , one guy was continually pissing off everyone by standing up and sitting down , he made some snide remark at the big guy and he got laid out cold , one punch! And u know what the boys did? They gave him a standing ovation...

I should add now that I got a few head shots myself from teachers myself there over the years..mostly when I was 11 or so. Same guys I look up to now.

Sadly the brothers were turfed out : all this secular shit ( which is fine in principle). New guy ran the place , discipline fell to shit , then he got turfed out, 'nother guy startin over from scratch ...we'll see what he does. Holy crap man , u woulda loved it there in its heyday , u screwed with those old boys , they came down on u like two ton of bricks and none of the kids would back up ur sorry attention grabbin ass. Some of the best results anywhere in the whole Goddamn country , latin , philosophy ,politics - debating , fuck I wish work were half as challenging or enjoyable.

Yeah my old school was in the north of England too, there was a lot of old school style teachers there too, harsh but fair. They got a lot of respect and results, my old school was consistently in the top 10 for gcse and a-levels in the league tables. I remember one guy who was only about 5'0 and 100 pounds , but he used to scare the shit out of me and I was a big kid (6'2 and 280 in 3rd year), by the time I left the school I was good friends with him though as I was with a lot of the other teachers.
