it is kinda hard to tell. What kinda bar you work in and who is the clientele. you should at least make 20$ an hour no problem.... Shit I know guys who make 80$ an hour at a college bar....

I am a bartender in a college town. (23 yrs old, in college myself). I make $4 per hour plus tips. Usually, at the end of the night (9:00 - 2:00, Friday and Saturday nights), I walk out with around $200. But, I have been doing it for a while, and work by myself at my request, since I find that more people just get in the way. I have friends that work longer, and get less, because there are three or four of them behind each bar.
I should say that I have my "baiters" too. People that have never paid for a drink in my bar (I just call it my bar because I have been there longer than anyone else, owners included, not because I own it) when I am working, and they tip almost as much as they would pay for the drinks. You gotta learn to manipulate the clients to make serious money...

look if it is a decent establishment and probably 1-2 other bartenders you make about 150$ after tipping out you barback, but this is mostly a college bar... If it is an upscale club for older people who have good jobs then you can walk out with anywhere from 200-500 a night but you need to know your drinks and how to serve them fast yet very cleanly. Bartender get paid to bullshit and serve drinks the faster you can serve the drink and the cleaner the more likely you are gonna get tipped. It all depends on how good you are and how sociable you are... Except if you are a chick then you just need big boobs and a tight shirt, ladies don't flame i work with a girl and when she works I end up making about -50-100$ more a night easy....
I worked in a bar for about a year. It had an older clientele, and tips were very rare. In Australia it isn't customary to tip at all, so any were completely unexpected.
I made about $15 an hour, which is a decent rate (minimum wage being around $10-12 here). It was more on weekends and after midnight. I'd usually net about $90-120 a shift, Aussie dollars here (1 AUD = 53 US cents).
The work was okay, but nothing special. I don't really enjoy the hospitality industry though - dealing with food and drink is yuck, and drunk wankers can be annoying.
The main problem was that the work is really tiring and the hours are long and inconvenient (not to mention catabolic, haha
).
