Is there a state that does not have income tax?

??? If not, where is the best place to llive where you can make the most money after living expenses and taxes and such?

Yes, Washington State although sales tax is 8% and the cost to license your car used to be outrageous.
Now on the flip side to the south is Oregon, with zero sales tax and a 5% income tax. So people live in Washington and drive to Oregon to buy stuff. Its funny.
THen underneath Oregon is California and you have both at just about the same rate.

There is no state exempt from federal income tax.

Thats what I do. I live in Vancouver, WA and just drive to Oregon to buy shit. I can be in downtown Portland within 20 minutes.

I think NH also doesn't have "income tax" but they have other taxes.....

lol, I lived next to Mt View HS in Hearthwood near the airport there. Now Im up by Clackamas town center.

Florida has no state income tax, but the State sales tax on everything but food and medicine is 7%. Some municipalities tack on another .5%. Property taxes can be high as well.

Ok...so in the states with no income tax but a federal income tax...do you get to keep more of the money you earn?

Well, I lived in PA prior to FL and I had a 2.5% income tax there with a 6% sales tax. But clothing wasn't taxed. All in all I think I was taxed slightly higher in PA.

Does anyone know what the hell the income tax is here in MD? I know that they tax just about everything else as well.

FLA has no income tax last I saw. You have to watch out for other taxes though.

Sales tax, and there milage on property purchases is a crime. jmo

And state income tax is usualy somewhat in check...like said before its the Federal that gets you.

I keep FL as my primary residence; no state income tax. The property taxes are kinda high (approx$20K per million), but as long as there is a Disney, there will be no state income tax in FL.

Dutch tax law SUCKS !!!!!

If a person owns property, then 1% of the value of the property is added to your income for tax purposes.

e.g. if you owned a 200,000eu apartment then an additional 2,000eu is added to your income. So if you earned 50,000eu you actually get taxed on 52,000eu.

When my mortgage broker told me this his only comment was "You are living in a socialist country, some one has to pay for the rent subsidies"

Is that separate from property taxes? Are you expecting to pay zero? I pay 4% of my home's value!

It's really going to vary widely from state to state in the US as there are some states with income tax but no sales tax (like DE); some with income + sales tax &/or high property tax; and a lot of in betweens.....

When I took Tax Accounting II we had a project where we had to research the taxes by state to find the best state to retire in based on a certain set of circumstances. You might want to call the tax assessor's office in the state you're curious about.....

Yes that is seperate from property taxes.

They add a %value of your property to your income and charge you for income tax.
