I havn't had the time to watch the news yesterday so i went to cnn.com and found this
• Five NATO airborne warning and control system (AWACS) aircraft have arrived at Tinker Air Force Base in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, to help patrol the skies over the United States, officials at NATO in Belgium and at Tinker tell CNN. The deployment marks the first time non-U.S. airplanes have been used for military purposes in U.S. airspace. "

Something is definately up why the hell do we need aircraft? It almost sounds like we're expecting a military attack. Fuck the towel heads man, We really shouldn't give a fuck anymore kill them. We didn't start the fight. It sure doesn't seem like America is "free".

This has been in the press for over a week. Nato is loaning these because all of the U.S fleet Awacs are in service over seas bombing the shit out of Afghanistan.

I wasn't really asking if it was on the news i was wondering why we have planes flying around protecting our country. How are planes protecting us from terroism. I think there is a bigger threat on ground than in the air. Who knows......??

the AWACS were brought in because they can detect airborn objects located below 200ft . Conventional ground radar cant.

If the terrorists are going to use planes to launch a biological/chemical attack, theyd be aware conventional radar detects above 200Ft, so theyd fly below.

Well, if my understanding of the purpose of AWACS, it's an airborne command and control center.

So really all this means for the Middle East, is that we will be able to guide ground troops into battle and provide up to date images of targets for bombing.


So I'm sure this is just the intial step to getting ground troops involved. Which in many ways should be a relief to the citizens of Afghanistan, since bombings tend to be both harder to sleep through and somewhat more accurate forms of attack.

But those planes look kinda cool. I think it should transform into a tank or something Decepticon-ish.

yea, but if the American Airforce fleet of AWACS are delpoyed in Eastern Europe near Afghastan to control US ground troops/equipment, then what sense would there be in the American government deploying NATO AWACS in American airspace where NO major troop buildup/military presence exists??

NBC reported the US was borrowing the AWACS, so I'd imagine they were flown here by NATO pilots, and left here with American pilots.

Touching down in the US is not 'deploying' in the US.
