have an ingredient listed on a package but really that ingredient doesnt exisit in the product? can you sue a company for doing this?

Its completely legal due to the placebo effect. You, on the other hand, can be prosecuted for ruining this effect with your careless comments.

Yes, I believe it violates FDA regulations to falsify content of a product with the labeling. It is possible to file suit if you have complications, injury, damages, or loss due to mislableing.

Well, sueing should always be your last resort as far as the legal system is concerned. You can first of all notify the company of their mishalf. If that doesn't produce results, next thing to do is to notify the FDA(if its an eatable product), or else your best bet is to notify The Better Business Beuro, and the local media. Nothing bring quicker action by a producer, than having the local news barging down their door screaming holy murder!
 
In Arkansas it's illegal to eat tv dinners while listening to the radio.
