Ipod, Iriver or Creative MP3 player

Which one to get?

Iriver 20G unit-
The iRiver H10 20GB MP3 Player plays up to 600 hours of digital music. It also features a vivid colour display for simple navigation and viewing your digital photos, a rechargeable battery, PlaysForSure enabled to play more of your music, rechargeable/removable battery that lasts up to 20 hours, a built-in FM tuner and FM recorder, and much more.

Creative Zen Micro 8GB Photo MP3 Player - Grey
Creative Zen Micro Photo MP3 Player has what you need in a MP3 player and more. It is just over 8 cm tall but this mp3 player can hold up to 4000 songs or thousands of photos on its 8GB hard drive. Its superior OLED display supports a remarkable 262,144 colours so your photos will look their best.

Apple 4GB iPod Nano - Black
The black Apple 4GB iPod Nano took everything you love about iPod and shrunk it. Then shrunk it again. So small, it will take your music places you never dreamed of. It has the capacity to hold about 1500 songs, while keeping pencil thin. It holds up to 3 days worth of music and plays up to 14 hours between battery charges

They are basically all the same price plus or minus 40 dollars or so.

What I like about the other 2 over the ipod is the FM tuner, it is great for the gym while doing cardio. They also hold a lot more tunes as they have more storage.

I know in the past peeps have posted great sites that have reviews of electronics. Post up if you have any as I would like to read some more reviews on these products.

Or a PDA that does both. That way you can track other things besides music. You are in IT after all. :)

ya know I never thought of that.

How good is the music on those though?
I don't have an ipod, but I've had several MP3 players over the years. I can't tell a difference between those and the PDA; but then again, I'm not a sound connoisseur.

I just got tired of taking the PDA, the MP3 player, the GameBoy whereever I went.
;)

Was just looking most pda's in that price range I am looking at are only 64mb. I need gigs of space for my music.

P.S. you are to old for gameboy ;)

I have a 2 GB card for the music. Sure, it makes the cost of the PDA + the card more then a player, but I figure that I get more functionality out of the unit as I use it to schedule alot of my time.

Second, do you really need all that music at one time? Me? I don't so I only use 500mb of the 2GB card.

Third, the games on the Gameboy are the old SuperNes games. I used it to take me back and make me believe that I'm 18 again. I tried to approach those types of girls (to make me feel 18), but I always get the "creepy old guy" comment and my wife doesn't let me date. So, I thought that the gameboy was cheaper and easier.

I highly recommend just buying the biggest ipod out there that you can afford. For the functionality and storage per $$ amount you can't go wrong. the nano is small but so is the regular iPod... But then again I got my ipod free... If you wanna PM me I can tell you how (not sure if posting it on this board is allowed).

I might just PM you if I go with Ipod. What I dont like about it is no FM tuner. That is a big thing for me.

is that a big thing?

refer to my post, bro. I'm not kidding, the player I recommend is the ipod except better.

I don't know anyone that uses their mp3 player to listen to the radio....I don't know anyone period, but that's a whole 'nother story. I would not let that be a deciding factor. If you plan to work out with it get one with a flash drive - no moving parts = no skipping. You won't want bulk either which is why I got the Nano. It's smaller than I thought and more durable than reported, although they do scratch easily. I saw a website where somebody drove over theirs, dropped it from various heights and all sorts of stuff and it still worked. It looked like hell but...

I have the iriver i365 I love it.. only 512 MB but great for the gym. Voice recorder (to record sets/reps) FM tuner (to watch TV and listen to radio) and MP3 player.. great stuff and I got it for $50

If you are looking for something to workout with.. get a small iriver with FM tuner and voice recorder.. 512MB - 1GB is enough

otherwise if you want some serious music playing and storage.. grab the ipod.

BTW. The reason to get an iPod over other MP3 players for serious music listening is because it is by far the most popular and thus has MUCH MUCH more support with 3rd party hardware and addons (like FM tuners, FM broadcasters so you can listen to it in your car without plugging anything in, voice recorders, digital camera addons, etc).

Who cares about popularity. If you have a big enough budget, you can market anything and make it a hit. Remember the dude who sold pet rocks?

The ipod is overated, and IMO not worth the cost. It's good, but not great. It's stylish, small, and has enough features to satisfy.

The creative zen vision: M is much better than the ipod.

It's not the popularity for popularity sake it's the fact that so many other companies are making shit for the iPod.. show me what stores you can go to and buy 20+ addons to the Zen vision M....

Ipod is extensible.. Zen's isn't

All the Iprod addons in the world won't matter when you accidently twist
your Ipod and crack the screen or case..
Don't touch that screen or you'll scratch it..

Or in 6 months to a year when you have to have the batteries replaced by mailing it in and paying to have them crack the seal and replace them, vs buying a new Zen batt pack at best buy and snapping it in yourself.

Ive had my ipod for 2 years now and still have a case on it and still have the original battery, just cause people post things on the internet doesnt mean its the majority .....

I've had my iRiver for over a year now and have had no real problems. I drop it all the god damn time - like from above waist-level onto rock. No breaking. Nothing. Still works fine. Do that almost every day. I'm that careful with it. I have the 20 GB one. Oh yeah, and I walk with it to work, have it on all day at work, walk home wiht it, then take it to the gym . I have it playing about 4-8 hours a day I'd say. I've been impressed by it thus far.

Possible. It all comes down to how many recharge cycles it has been through, and how you recharge NI MH.. The point is that it is not easy to perform eventual batt replacement on the Ipod, and that is a major issue with some long term users..

My MPIO flash player has been so water logged that water actually dripped from the card and battery compartments. I took everything out, let it dry for a day or 3 without turning it on and all was fine. Even the music was still good.

Ipod is extensible.. Zen's isn't

You dont make a purchase based on the accesories, you make it based on the core of the whole deal - the player itself. Besides, the market is too saturated anyways with all the bullshit accesories. Having an ipod is like having a pet now -- that's why they design all this shit for you to waste money on. Accessories are just that, accessories -- but you dont need them.

The creative zen vision M has a better screen than any ipod, 250 thousand colours versus the ipods 65 k. The vision m has better battery life. 15 hours of music playback or 5 hours for movies vs 2 hours for the ipod video playback and 13 hours for music. Also, the creative zen has the same great controls as an ipod. One underlooked feature that I especially like is that the zen is scratch resistant -- this is important if you dont want a screen that's hard to read after a while. Oh, and the zen has better audio hardware.

i've had 2 iRiver's, but broke in a matter of months. if you have attached to yourself, they get sweat in them, and then are history. plus the control button that was on the ones I had, shit the bed real easily. have one of those Nano's now. hands down better than the iRiver's.

has no credeance in regards to the creatives

I wanted the IRIVER but got the Nano for christmas (credit card points) So Im pretty much over it already - I thought I would miss the radio but im adicited to Sirius so thats not true any more - I say get the iRiver or I can sell you my new IPOD Nano =)

I have had my Iriver for two years with no problmes. I wear it to the gym everyday and I bought the energizer rechargeable batteries with it and I have to change batteries about once a month. I have dropped it sweat in it and everything and nothing is wrong with it. No scratches on the screen and adding music to the player is a simple drag and drop.
