IP trace...

***

New member
how can i trace someone's IP address on yahoo instant messenger?

i know how to trace IPs in emails, but don't know how to do that for IMs. can anyone help out? thanks

u know u can only get so far.... like the city name and the isp... i don't know what this info could do 4 u?

well first you would have to have there IP address, i don't think yahoo messenger allows you to see this on other users besides yourself, probably can't even see your own, but i'm not positive....but yes, this is useless for chasing women....unless this person sent you a virus or has done something against the law, the only thing you can do with this is get there isp, and then contact them, and then go from there.

Why are you trying to trace out an IP addy of someone. If they wanted you to have their personal info I'm sure all you would have to do was ask.

The only thing a firewall or sniffer will tell you is that the message is from www.ying.yahoo.com/blahblahblah

Possibly launch something like Etherpeek and then ask the user to transfer a file to you. Not sure if a p2p file transfer registers as a yahoo site or the IP address.

yup and there was some trick I used to do with ICQ to get Ips. But anyway an IP won't tell you that much. Only the person's ISP, maybe his/her city and that's it. Unless you work or know someone working at his ISP, then it's worthless...

You connect to a server to use Yahoo, if you direct connect with someone you should be able to see them with Netstat -a on a PC.

either direct connect with them or do a file transfer. Then go to your command prompt and type "netstat"
